Great watch. I appreciate the UI more than the 7. Sometimes the screen responsiveness from touch can be slow. The two moments I’ve noticed most is when tapping to start an activity and when swiping down on the first screen at evening and morning reports. Also, I’m a little bummed about the InReach. It wasn’t made clear that you need to pay a separate fee and subscription to activate the watch even if you already have a device and active subscription. That feature is the main reason I got this model over a cheaper model.
I bought it over a month ago and like it. I do like my Fénix 6 more. The screen is not as sharp and that was a bit disappointing since this was a much newer generation.
I had a fenix 8 pro and upgraded to the 9 pro. So far I am not impressed the heart is terrible unless your contacted to a heart rate monitor. When you’re using the tracking it loses satellite connection numerous times. I was hoping it would be better then the 8 it’s not.
I replaced my Fenix 7x Pro 47mm with the 9 Pro 47mm inReach solar. I am disappointed. Positive: battery life upgrade; phone-free live tracking and emergency connectivity. Negative: the watch lags through every process significantly more than my 7x Pro; it feels like a downgrade. Select music? Wait. Start an activity? Wait. Also GarminExpress with this watch is simply not functional. Downloading maps if you travel outside of the continent you purchased the watch is very challenging. The watch is also noticeably heavier. Hoping firmware will make this a better investment.
Bought this to upgrade from Fenix 7s. Excellent features and I love that all settings transferred to new watch automatically. If you have very small wrists you might want the Fenix 9 43 mm instead. I have to tighten band very far for it to fit snugly.
Still having the same problem with the 9 that I had with the 8. It doesn’t correctly read heart rate on extreme workouts. The numbers are way too high and I’ve compared the 9 with other devices to cross check. This inherently throws other numbers off. Garmin needs to fix this issue.
I upgraded from a Fenix 8 Pro 51mm, mainly because I wanted a lighter and slightly smaller watch— and I loved the Fenix 8 Pro. I was initially worried about giving up battery life for the smaller 47mm case and switching to a MIP display, but I wanted the lighter weight and smaller size that fit my wrist better.
I couldn't be happier with the switch. The watch feels much lighter on my wrist, and the battery life is great — I top it off while in the shower twice a week and it's good to go the rest of the time.
The biggest surprise was the MIP display. It took me a day to adjust, but I don't miss AMOLED at all now, and I wouldn't go back if given the option.
