(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I am an IT consultant, and I primarily use this for light coding, installing all the tools I need. VS Studio, Code, Docker, GIT, etc... And for the most part things run alright but is tight on memory (16GB). Main problems that I have using this as a technical work laptop, is 16 GB of RAM just simply is not enough. Docker likes to crash and freeze the system. You also need to watch-out for the these Co-Pilot AI integrated laptops, as you might cause problems trying to fully disable it on your laptop. What I did find, that was eating a lot of memory were the services, like a real-time backup snapshot. You will need to disable some of these memory eating services.
What I do like, is the graphics, they have a nice hue and looks great browsing and watching vids. Reasonably for quick non CPU intensive tasks and quiet. I don't do gaming, so I can't say what that is like.
What needs to be better, Lenovo instructions. Lenovo, needs to put all the Drivers onto the Laptop, and inside a folder. When you first start up, Windows logs in to download the latest version. As soon as it does that, reboots your laptop, you completely lose WIFI/Bluetooth. The default Windows drivers, overwrite the Lenovo drivers, and WIFI becomes useless. There is also the need to reboot via the BIOS/Fully Powerdown your laptop to re-enable the Lenovo drivers once you get them back on the laptop. And be careful of what VPN you use. NordVPN can wreck havoc on all your network settings, using it's own proprietary VPN tunnel, which breaks your WIFI. You really need drivers on your laptop. With no WIFI, the Lenovo service desk help software is useless without an internet connection

Hello,

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on the IdeaPad Pro 5. We're glad to hear that you're enjoying the display quality, overall responsiveness, and quiet operation of the system for your day-to-day work.

We appreciate your insights as an IT professional, particularly regarding memory utilization when running development tools, Docker workloads, and other technical applications. We understand that 16GB of RAM can feel limiting for certain development environments and multitasking scenarios.

We're also sorry to hear about the issues you encountered with driver management, Wi‑Fi connectivity, and system setup after initial updates. Reliable connectivity and a smooth out-of-box experience are important, and we recognize how frustrating it can be when network drivers or software configurations interfere with productivity.

Your feedback regarding memory management, driver availability, setup documentation, and overall usability is valuable and will be shared with our product teams for review. We appreciate the time you took to provide such detailed observations and thank you for choosing Lenovo.

Regards,
Thomas, Lenovo

Great light but powerful laptop

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Got this laptop during Black Friday as my other laptop had crashed. I got this at almost half off. This laptop is light but powerful. I use it for work, some gaming and of course, surfing the net.
I played Mechwarrior Mercenaries, Gear 5 and Halo Infinite. My old laptop, it sounded like a helicopter was taking off whenever I play those games. With this laptop, the fan is super quiet as I barely hear it. It runs great and the laptop is light, compared to other laptops that can play some games. It has a 8GB video card which seems like the bare minimum now.
I do carry this laptop around and it weighs about 3.5 lbs, which isn't bad for a 16" laptop. Even though it is 16", the case is around 14" wide and 10" depth so I can still use my previous laptop bag.
One thing I wish was an option was to be able to upgrade the ram to 32GB. It has 16 which is fine but having the option would be good. It does have two SSD slots, 1 is 2242 size and the other is 2280. It came with 512GB in the M.2 2242 size. I added a 2GB SSD in the 2nd slot.
In terms of battery, I can get around 10-13 hrs of use, depending on what I'm doing. If you're gaming on battery, then you get a few hours at most. The USB C has PD 3.0 so it can only handle 100W. It isn't enough to charge the battery and game. If you're just surfing and using a 100W plug and cable, it will slowly charge the battery but I usually don't do that since I'm not really out that long to use up the battery.
Overall, a great laptop and if it's on sale, even better.

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) Got this on sale during Boxing Day. It is a great laptop, that has 8GB of video ram (DDR7), 16 GB of system ram, 1 TB of storage and weighs less than 4 lbs. Even though it is a 16" laptop, it is very portable ij my backpack.
I have played Mechwarrior Mercenaries, Halo Infinite, The Elder Scrolls Oblivion remastered. The laptop came with a 3 month Xbox Gamepass so I use that to test what games I can play.
One thing I like about this laptop is that it doesn't get too hot and the fan is still quiet. My old laptop sounded like a helicopter was trying to take off when I played Halo or Mechwarrior.
The battery life is good. With just surfing and watching YouTube, I can get about 14-15 hours. I did add another 2TB SSD drive (took from old laptop) so that may be why.
Overall, great laptop. If on sale, I'd recommend for casual gamers who also wamt long battery life. The gaming laptops have really ahort battery life so not as portable.
