Great on Win10 - No use on Raspbian Buster
on August 12, 2020
Posted by: snahL
This adapter provides transfer speeds up to 90MB/sec with a HDD SATA-III.
However Raspbian OS Buster on a Raspberry Pi 4 will put this adapter into Quirks mode (BOT) taking the transfer speed down to a lousy 8-10 MB / sec.

This cable works great on my Windows10 machine, allowing use of the external esata drive. But, it is not recognized on my 2013 MacBookPro running OSX 10.13.6, High Sierra.

Will not work when connected as:
PC connection is an eSATA and the disk connections is USB3 on Windows 10.
Response from startech.comBy MattCustomer SupportFebruary 3, 2020
We apologize for any confusion when purchasing our USB3S2ESATA3. As stated below the title of the adapter, it is designed to connect a USB computer to an eSATA drive and does not work in the opposite direction. At this time we do not have an adapter to connect a computer with eSATA to a USB device.

Worked for me!

I have esata swappable drives and just bought a new Mabook Air (mid 2017) with Usb3 ports. I purchased these cable and plugged them in and they just worked. No hassles. I was very surprised! Highly recommend. They are a little pricey but seems to be a good investment.
