You can also try shaving after a warm shower to soften the hair follicles. For a closer shave, try shaving against the direction of hair growth. Be gentle and avoid pressing too hard to prevent irritation. While shaving, use your free hand to stretch the skin in the area you're shaving. This can help the shaver get closer to the hair. I've had a variety of razors, both rotary and foil, from name brands lile Norelco and Remington, and the ARC5 is by far the best I've ever used. You can actually hear the whiskers being cut, and the shave is closer to blade that you're likely to get with any razor (though I've never owned one of the ultra-expensive Brauns). It has no problem getting the troublesome neck area either. Definitely recommended.

Very poor performance than older Panasonic models

I am really disappointed with arc 5 purchase. I have been using different Panasonic shavers since last 20 years and they were all excellent, but this model is very poor in performance compared to previous models. I feel like it is not shaving anything even though it has 5 blades. I have to use my old Panasonic shaver after using this to have closer shaving. Top of that it is very bulky and not easy for shaving mustache area. I really regret of purchasing this model.

5 heads too many. Go back to making ARC4s

I have owned and used an ES8243 ARC4 wet/dry shaver for years and it still works well but this ARC5 was 40% off so I decided to give it a try. I did not like the width of the 5 heads. Too big and hard to get into tight spaces. Maybe because I have a short beard and only need to shave my cheeks and neck. Also taking off the head seemed cumbersome since it is so shallow. It's hard to hold on to. So sad they stopped making the ARC4. I recently bought my son the StarWars ARC3 and tried it and didn't like that either. It didn't save well and wasn't flexible.

This is the first time I have ever used an electric razor and I am pleasantly surprised at how this razor performs. I have used a safety razor for several years to get my thick and full facial hair as close of a shave as possible. With this comes consequences in developing razor bumps and irritation. Whenever I shave always with, cross and against the grain it is hard not to have a 5 o clock shadow with as dark and thick my facial hair is.
This electric gets as close as possible without getting cut or irritation. Now I can shave every day with this and on occasions use a safety razor and this limits the damage to my face.
I would recommend this for anyone no matter how thick or thin your hair is.
