[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Flip 4 is excels in every way for its price range.
Right from the start, I was amused by the stylish packaging that itself housed quite a stylish speaker. The speaker's design is sleek and iconic. The user interface is simple, barely requiring instruction. Its hardy construction is evident immediately; The waterproof mesh covering the speakers feels similar in material to the waterproof material on a hiking boot, so I don't expect it to fray easily when I take it hiking with me and it accidentally scrapes past something. Around the edges is a hard, dense plastic that protects it against accidental drops. Overall, very appealing aesthetically and practically.
Sound quality is where the Flip 4 truly shines, I feel. It is simply the best I've heard from this price range. One of the most immediately noticeable aspects is the hefty bass. When it is turned up loud, I can feel the floor of my apartment vibrate beneath my feet due to the punchy bass. This coming from speaker that is only about half a foot long is pleasantly surprising! The Flip 4's vocal range is very distinct and accurate. If i didn't know better, I'd think the vocals were coming directly from someone's mouth rather than a speaker. High-end frequencies isn't really something to wright home about, though. It is about average. High-hats and cymbals don't sound as bright as they could. This is to be expected from such a small speaker.
I'd recommend this speaker to any outdoor aficionado looking for something small to take hiking with buds or someone looking for a good speaker to listen to while in the shower or cooking dinner. I was definitely impressed with the flip 4's performance, as to be expected from JBL.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I began using the JBL Flip 4 portable bluetooth speaker about twi weeks ago, and I must say, it is my ""Go" to speaker. The solid sound is one of its best features. The clarity is extraordinary. Compares with other more expensive products on the market today.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this speaker!! It was smaller then I expected but boy is it powerful! The bass was surprisingly deep and it got pretty loud! I used it for a conference call with several others and everyone could hear us clear and couldn't tell we were using the speaker. The speaker is is covered in a type of fabric so cleaning it was a little challenging, but because it is water proof I just stuck under running water and scrubbed.
I've had it about two weeks and absolutely love it! It sounds great, base is good, crisp clear sound, light weight, and goes anywhere. I've it used in ridng my bicycle - put it in the bottle holder and away I went... Highly recommend it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ll start this review of the JBL Flip 4 with a little background. I’m listening with 48-year-old ears and I almost always have music playing no matter what I’m doing. My musical tastes were formed in the 70’s and 80’s, so my initial listening was done with bands like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Depeche Mode, and Nine Inch Nails, plus some more recent stuff from Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree. I purchased the original Flip back in 2013 and have been very happy with it – so happy in fact that I haven’t thought of upgrading until now.
Compared to the original Flip, the Flip 4 is about 40% larger overall (1” taller, .25” larger diameter) and only slightly larger than the Flip 3. The unit is a uniform color (mine is blue) except for the red JBL logo in the middle. The grill cover feels like a tightly-knit fabric and the ends are rubberized, making it easy to grip. It has a recessed loop to attach the included carry strap. The buttons are very natural and intuitive to use, with only a light press needed to register. Pairing with my Pixel XL was simple, and the Bluetooth 4.2 connection stayed strong even more than 50 feet away (direct line of sight outdoors). The USB charging port and a 3.5mm audio jack are hidden behind a rubber flap. One thing I was glad to see was that the proprietary charger that came with my original Flip is gone – this device uses a standard USB connection and comes with a really sweet flat orange USB cable. JBL claims the battery yields up to 12 hours of full-volume playtime, and only needs 3.5 hours to completely recharge. I can confirm both of these – the Flip 4 actually lasted more than 13 hours and I was able to fully recharge in just under 3.5 hours. A final note: as consumers we’ve come to expect premium devices to come in premium packaging, and JBL did a nice job with the box for the Flip 4.
The Flip 4 has dual 8 watt drivers, which should play music loud enough for most people. I was able to fill a decent-sized room (12’ x16’ with vaulted ceilings) with negligible, if any, distortion at high volume levels. The highs are nice and crisp, the midrange is clear, and the bass is tight – to me this is classic JBL. The sound is easy on the ears. I didn’t expect window-rattling lows, but the two passive radiators on either side of the speaker deliver a controlled bass hit that sounds like it comes from a much larger speaker. The Flip 4 is designed to be either laid flat or stood on its side but when it’s upright, one of the radiators is covered, which reduces the bass response a little. I found the fullest, most enjoyable sound laying it flat. The stereo soundstage is naturally not as wide as if you had two separate speakers, but I found it at least as good, if not better, than other portable Bluetooth speakers. A great feature of the Flip 4 is the ability to connect a second speaker and run them in stereo (I would have loved to have tried this - if I can find a friend who buys one I’ll update my review), or you can connect more than 100 JBL Connect+ enabled speakers (I REALLY would have loved to have tried this) to improve the experience. As with any speaker, placement is key. You won’t get as much bass sitting it in the middle of the room on your coffee table and it might be too “boomy” if you pop it deep in a corner, so play around until you get the sound you enjoy the most. You’re starting from a very good place with the Flip 4, so you really can’t go wrong. It has a built-in microphone for hands-free calling. Sound on phone calls was extremely good. The people I spoke to said I was clearer than when I’m on my phone. The microphone can also be used to call up Siri, Google Assistant, et al. I was able to get my Flip 4 to sing Happy Birthday to me (and it wasn’t even my birthday) and recite an Emily Dickinson poem by talking to it. I would have liked to have been able to activate that feature using my phone instead of pushing the button on the speaker, but maybe that feature will appear in a future firmware update.
Finally, JBL says the Flip 4 has an IPX7 rating, meaning it is protected from immersion in water with a depth of up to 1 meter (or 3.2ft) for up to 30 minutes. This doesn’t mean you should be taking a bath with your speaker, but you should be okay in rain, splashing and accidental submersion in water. As much as it killed me, I tried it. I put the Flip 4 into a sink filled with water for a few minutes (not 30) and it came out as good as it went in, so I’m saying for most of us it passed the test. You should be okay playing your Flip 4 poolside.
In conclusion, if you’re on the market for a high-quality Bluetooth speaker, you will not go wrong with the JBL Flip 4. Cosmetically, the Flip 4 may not win any design awards, but it’s reasonably attractive and it is solidly made. What really stands out the most is the sound quality. It’s got a lively, appealing sound that’s ideal for most music.
Very good product!!!! I'm recommended this speaker

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just got JBL Flip 4 it very powerful stereo sound,it is compact speaker and Li-ion battery is incredible for 12 hours, I alway keep with me every where I go, easy to carry in bag or luggage, normally I like to listen music talk on the phone when I'm busy in kitchen or wet hand in garden or swimming, It work good you not gonna carry phone all the time just speaker, JBL Connect+ technology that can wirelessly links more than 100 JBL Connect+ enabled speakers together to amplify the listening experience but I have only 2 right now, One of my family said can I exchange from his old speakers(Bose) with my JBL Flip4 Or my JBL Flip3, I said.... No!, His speaker is sound not stereo and battery is not longer and difficult to pair it, by the way I love JBL product very much,Since I remember I have JBL many years, I can tell you should have it.
P.S. I also have charge2and3 and My ear buds, But my ears buds don't work anymore "( sad I will get new one soon. Also next step I will buy compact TV speaker lol ") n
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] James B Lansing would be proud. From the minute I opened the package, I knew this was a quality product. What I didn't expect is such incredible sound from this small speaker.
It sounds fantastic in both vertical and horizontal positions, and holds a charge freakishly well. Charging is easy with the high quality cable included and the visual LED meter lets you know your battery strength. Turn on-off and bluetooth pairing sound FX, very cool! Fit and finish, quality of construction all better than expected in this price range, and the control buttons, which almost seem to be pushing through the water proof grill cloth, work well and feel expensive.
Pairing is quick and easy and I noticed that even though I wandered away from the speaker with my phone and moved around the house, it stayed connected and played without breaking up. The ability to pair more JBL connect+ devices is a great feature and worked nicely. JBL also included an aux jack under the waterproof cover where you charge the speaker - they didn't forget anything when they designed this speaker, but the best feature by far is the amazing SOUND QUALITY!
Yes, there are still some of out there who love great sound! I love and truly appreciate the incredible dynamic range this little speaker produces. Both side bass baffles seemed a little gimmicky at first, but do their job very well as this little speaker produces lower frequency response than I though possible. In the Kitchen, it fills the whole room with quality sound regardless or the volume or type of music I'm listening to. In the shower (yes waterproof means waterproof) the tile acoustics allow this little gem to really shine with sound quality so dramatic, you'll want to shower till the hot's gone.
Kudos to the folks at JBL, this one really lives up to the name!
