All the nostalgia feels

The original castle sets got me into Lego as a kid, and this set was a day 1 purchase. Lots of fun to build, over several days. The design is very clever to allow for opening up, and closing. My kids really enjoy playing with it too.

A dream come true with weird minifigure choices

When I as a kid decades ago I wished to buy a lego castle and years later it became true. The set is amazing. It has so many details and we spent so much fun time with my 7 years to build and play already. The only weird thing is number of female minifigures. Really it does not make sense. But it's not big deal when you play with them, all figures look the same.
I would recommend this to a friend!

About time lego

My first lego set was back in the late 80’s. It was black monarchs castle I had got for Xmas that year and it started my lego hobby. This castle was by far the best one ever designed and who ever did design it needs a raise and to be able to make more. I will be buying another one of these. The curves and how it opens up with the colors was remarkable. Sad to say that despite all the secret trap doors and high walls the lion knights even teamed up with the falcons were no match for the troll hordes. (See pic)

What a great set! This castle brought back so many memories from playing Lego on the bedroom floor with my brother as kids, and looks great as well. It was also really cool to see the increase in female mini-figures in roles that Lego did not used to include female figures. There is nothing political about using toys to remind kids that their gender does not define them. Thank you for correcting past oversights!

Loved putting this together, so many unique ideas and techniques! The theme was captured perfectly and is a great tribute to Castle sets past.

Amazing, but...

This is one of the best, if not the best set I've ever gotten ever, which is saying something since I've been building Lego sets since I was a little kid.
I did most all of the build in one day and the journey was really enjoyable. The details in every room, the way almost every area connects, and the little easter eggs sprinkled throughout were amazing.
HOWEVER, about halfway through I found I was missing a piece. This has only happened a few times to me ever, but this time it was especially frustrating because of the premium price I paid for the set, and because I really wanted everything about a set like this to be perfect. I ordered a replacement for free, and it was very easy to do so, but that doesn't change the fact that the piece was missing in the first place.
Even with that issue, I still love the set and recommend it.

Best overall castle set so far

This set is far and away the best castle set the Lego group has ever commercialized. Not only are modern, clever building techniques used the designers also found a way to incorporate realistic architectural features such as machicolations or even a (realistic...) castle bathroom. The instructions include annotations from the perspective of Majesto throughout the build which were fun to read. I truly feel that this set is a love letter to the castle fans of old. Its as if the Lego group traveled back in time and built a Lego castle that checked every box my childhood brain could conjure up. I was concerned when I first saw the design opened up. The other castles which open on hinges can be somewhat flimsy but they really ensured the structural integrity on this one so I can safely let my 4 year old play with it and I won't end up having to rebuild the whole thing. There are only two minor criticisms I have; Some of the big castle walls are just big bare grey blocks and it throws off the overall composition. I circumvented this by replacing some bricks with masonry bricks. Secondly the fact that had to do a considerable amount of head swapping to balance out the genders. All in all I was very happy and glad that they chose to go all out on an enormous castle to celebrate the 90th and I hope to see more castle sets released.
