Father & Sons: AMAZING Experience

Wow.
So my two boys (ages 7 & 9) bought this set with their pooled money (with a little help from Dad). I initially thought it would be too challenging a build, but let them give it a shot anyway, assuming I'd get to finish it up myself. I was wrong. My boys worked for two weeks, switching who did the build every-other page. As it slowly came together, I turned into a 9yo boy again: gazing upon it with wonder, sharing their excitement, and playing with the figures along with all the fun moving parts/secret hideouts/ etc. Apart from clarifying a few steps, my boys didn't really need my help- and I know they learned a lot along the way about these amazing new building techniques that didn't exist back in the 90-00's.
There are just so many amazing details and fun surprises in how this set comes together, I really couldn't be happier. But the real win for me was to watch my boys methodically work on something together.
Now, my Dragon and Fright Knights can storm my sons' Lion Knight's castle- and I'm thinking the walls will hold with a little help from the Forestmen.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Long live the Lego Queen

I had saved money for my birthday for this and it was definitely worth it.
-Lots of interior space with enough details
-Very cool hidden features (drawbridge that doubles as trapdoor, etc)
-The amount and quality of figures are great. Very nice to finally have a Queen with a helmet and also hair that has a detachable tiara/crown.
-Fantastic little side builds (like the market stall and weapon racks) that can easily be removed/moved around.

Overall I am very happy with the price and the final outcome of the build. Had about 26 bags and took me three days (pacing myself, of course, at about 4+ hours per day). Straight-forward building with some very cool techniques to get the building angles.
I would recommend this for anyone on the fence about it.

Charming, Delightful, Endless Fun

The passion and love for this set can be felt. The creators clearly had fun constructing this homage to the old castle theme. The instructions feature little notes throughout, the overall build experience is just a delight - so many hidden easter eggs and details - at no point did it feel repetitive. Lots of mini-figures for endless play. I can't say enough good things. The value is there. Absolutely no stickers, the way it should be. The design is glorious. Despite being PERFECT for play, it also functions as a great display piece.
LEGO, please make more of these classic sets filled with love.

My favorite set in 16 years

I love this set. The only thing I wish for is more medieval themed stuff to go along with it so I can really build up (get it? bc legos?) my medieval kingdom. I also love that most of the knights are girls, as a kid I used to wish there were more girl figures so that detail made me really excited. 11 year old me would be so hyped lol

Missing pieces detracts from experience

I have the original castle from my childhood; it was one of my favorite sets back then. Unfortunately, the missing pieces from this build have detracted from the overall enjoyment of putting this set together. Having to stop, wait a week for pieces to arrive, resuming the build, and finding more missing pieces as the build progresses has been pretty frustrating. I've been pretty lucky with past sets being complete, but this one has disappointed me thus far in that regard, especially for the price of the set.

almost perfect

As someone who got their start on castle and space I loved building this set. It has some great building techniques I haven't seen before. The castle looks incredible once complete. It is huge.
The one nitpick I have is the injection mold marks on some of the pieces, particularly the 1x1 light gray rounded-top pieces that are used heavily along the tops of the walls. I wish these were produced differently so these marks were not there, or at least not in a prominent place. The marks on those top pieces are right in the face of the piece on one side. Bummer for a set that is meant to be an adult-built showpiece.
But I'm still happy I purchased this. It will be the foundation of what I hope will be a fast growing castle-pirate-lighthouse world. Blacksmith and Eldorado Fortress next hopefully!

Awesome

This build was absolutely awesome! The build style and regular bricks used throughout the build brough me back childhood memories. It was an absolute joy to put this set together. I love all the hidden features, the way the castle opens and comes apart for playability, absolutely awesome.
If I had one complaint, is how hard LEGO is trying to be inclusive as they made most of the minifig soldiers in this set women, not true to the era of castles. Otherwise, this is a great set, probably one of the best and I would recommend it to anyone.
