At the time of Macbook pro purchase from Best Buy online I ordered this Apple USB Digital Multiport adapter as I had to transfer my data from Windows laptop. I ordered this adapter without seeing other online options, and I found them really at a good price. really really at low price with a lot more options like WLAN cable and card reader options which this Over priced apple adaptor doesn't have. I regret this purchase @ $80 plus.
I unfortunately purchased this product assuming it would be compatible with my 2015 MacBook Air. In fairness, Apple does explicitly state online that this adapter is compatible with 2018 MacBook Airs and later models. To my surprise, Best Buy/Insignia offers an identical adapter (https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/insignia-usb-c-to-hdmi-multiport-adapter-ns-pcachm-c-only-at-best-buy/14823521?cmp=knc-s-71700000055264076&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5sWGvumKhAMVAgutBh3MEQnYEAQYASABEgJ0FfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds) for almost half the price that is compatible with my 2015 MacBook Air. Shame on you Apple!
This is the first time I've been disappointed with an Apple product in my 15+ years of using their various products. Issues: 1) USB-A port does not "Eject" properly, or, intermittently it ejects on its own repeatedly. I stopped using this adapter in fear of damaging my external HDD. Also the USB-A port is extremely and abnormally tight to insert and remove. 2) USB-C port only accepts power cord, not other USB-C device (i.e. SSD). 3) HDMI works as it should, but the price just for this functionality is too much to pay, even for Apple.
Will be returning to get a Best Buy's own USB-C to HDMI cable, or an adapter from a third party manufacturer.
As simple as that, it works. WFH, needed to connect a second monitor to the 2017 iMac I was given, and didn't want to skimp my luck and buy rip-offs anywhere else just in case it would've been more of a hassle. Connected to the iMac, plugged in an HDMI to external monitor and to the adapter, and tada, two screens! Expensive for what it's probably worth, but better than spending $20+ on worse quality and headaches.
purchased this as my old adaptor went down. I have 2 Mac lap tops and neither will plug into the charging port on this adaptor (their seems to be some impediment in the manufacture that is only allowing the charging cable to go in half way) - the other functions are fine but if I have my computer connected to the HDMI port on my TV, I want it charging at the same time.
I have tried other adapters in the past and their connection to my HDMI monitor was off and on. The Apple works flawlessly. The cost is high but with the dependability is worth it
