I had been suffering some eye problems from working on computers all day, so that when I finished work and stepped away from the computer I could not see anything even moderately distant, even with my glasses. This happened with all kinds of monitors, so I was feeling a bit stuck. Then as a bit of a long shot I tried the XReal 1S glasses, and they have completely fixed the problem. I work on the glasses all day, with the virtual screen set to 192" at 5m, and when I finish work my vision is clear. My eyes can focus more distantly during the workday and don't get strained. Although the apparent distance of the screen can be varied from 1m to 10m, the focal length for your eyes doesn't really change (I hear it's about 4-5m) so 5m gives a pretty natural viewing experience.
The text is perfectly clear for working and the colours are good. Contrast is excellent because the glasses automatically darken when you look at the virtual screen so that the blacks become very dark, even when you're staring towards a light source. You can face a window or a light and there's only the faintest hint of it behind the screen. At the size of screen I set, you can just about see the whole thing at once, but I like moving my head to look at different parts of the screen - my neck is less stiff after a day's work.
If you need glasses or contact lenses you will need to order prescription lens inserts that hook into these glasses. You can find third-party branded lenses for cheap.
I prefer to use the anchor mode, where the screen stays in one position as you turn your head to look around it. It really feels like a big projector screen across the room, but clearer. The tracking is so smooth and stable that mostly you forget you're not really looking at a fixed screen.
The glasses are also good for TV and movies, though there you'll want to see the whole screen at once and the 52" diagonal FOV means you have to set the screen a little smaller. It's still a big screen and much easier than filling your room with a giant TV.
I like that these don't try to be "smart". They just do one thing well. It's hard to find tech like that these days.
If I have any complaints they would be: (1) You have to arrange them quite carefully on your nose to not feel like you're staring at a big screen through a narrow tube. (2) There are hazy shadow images around the screen. They're obvious when you're seeing a few small bright things on a totally black screen, but once you have a normal screenful of stuff you don't notice them except for some haze beyond the outside of the screen. (3) Very occasionally the screen starts to wander slowly leftwards or rightwards, and you have to press the button to recenter it, then move your head around a bit to stop it moving. (4) The AI 3D conversion is a neat trick but I find it hard to enjoy videos with it on, because makes some mistakes and also slows the frame rate noticeably. (5) If you wear a shirt with bright patterns on a sunny day, you'll see it reflected in the glasses, though they're still perfectly usable.
Overall they're very good, better than I expected, and none of those minor downsides are really a problem.
