Looks Great but Fragile

I'm a long time Lego fan and Coaster Enthusiast. Over the years I've purchased several Lego Creator Expert sets including all of the carnival rides. When I heard about the Roller Coaster I was extremely excited. I finally picked it up a few weeks ago and couldn't wait to get building. It's definitely a repetitive build but that didn't really bother me. What does bother me is how fragile the set is. For playability I expect the set to be reasonably stable but I'm having a hard time getting parts to stay together. The pressure put on different bricks from the cranks and chain seem to cause bricks to come loose and I find myself frequently tightening the connections between the bricks. The set is also extremely difficult to move the the functions don't always work (ie: The train doesn't always make it to the lift hill from the station). Not a bad set by any means but definitely not as good as it could have been.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you're having some difficulties with your Roller Coaster. From what you've described, something's likely just a little off in the build. It'd be a good idea to rebuild the sections that are giving you trouble and any other sections that support them. You'll also want to be sure that all your gears have enough room to turn smoothly. You should have much better results!
If you'd like a hand troubleshooting the build, you can reach our Customer Service team at LEGO.com/Service
There were pages not in the instruction book for building this LEGO in two different sections

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you've had some trouble with the instructions to your Roller Coaster. You should definitely have two instruction books that show you step by step everything you need to do to build the Coaster.
If there's a problem with one of the books or if one's missing entirely, don't worry! You can get in touch with us at LEGO.com/Service and we're happy to get things sorted for you. (And in the meatime, you can check out the digital version of the instructions, also available at that link.)
This set is amazing. I did not know how large it was until I saw it on display in a Lego Store. The detail in the grounds and minifigures are amazing. Building the base of this set on carpet is a bad idea. When I finished the build, I tested out the pulley system to get the carts to the top. When I twisted the lever, it made a weird cranking sound and made the ride up the track very choppy. I found that you have to make sure that all of the gears have to have room to move around. Other than that, this set is amazing.
We are a family of 3 (soon to be 4) who love to build with Lego during our free time. We usually buy Lego sets that our son(age 5) picks out for birthdays and other holidays. We generally build a set over the course of a few days or weeks one bag at a time before bed time.
This set took the longest for us to complete, but was very enjoyable to build. My son loved the Minifigures and other accessories like the juice stand and cotton candy cart, while my wife and I were blown away with the design of the frame and intricate mechanisms. My son also liked helping me with the gear assemblies, chain drive, and other complicated sections.
Most importantly, unlike a few of the sets we've built in the past, this one has had the greatest play value. My son and I have spent hours loading the cars with various themed characters and acting out their trips to the amusement park. Most recently was Sensei Wu and the Ninjas driving the Ultrasonic Raider to the roller coaster for few hundred laps and some cotton candy. :D
While the price is rather high, I believe this set is a great value, especially if you or your kids like to play with Lego sets just as much as building them.
The only sort of con for me, is that it takes up a lot of space. We've designated a coffee table to it, and it cant really be taken apart into smaller sections for storage. But its size is also what makes it so incredible and fun.
Well, the term "repetitive" just got a new meaning... Bought this set a month ago, didn't read any reviews. After completing the first 2 bags, I got the feeling that I built the same piece around 30 times. I don't get bored easily, but with this set lego nearly succeeded to give me a bore-out. I am starting to doubt if I will continue the build, as it does not give any satisfaction in building for the moment. Another point, is that the set is very fragile, and I would strongly advise to build the set on top of a hard underground which you can move around (big wooden plank or so). If not, you will not be able to move the set once it has been built. And then there's the price tag attached to this set... It takes a big bite out of the budget, and I don't get the impression that this set gives me value for money. I can only hope if I complete this set with motorisation, that it will give some satisfaction looking at the carts going round the track

Hey there! I'm sorry to hear that you're not enjoying your LEGO® Roller Coaster so far. While the supports may feel repetitive, they're what allows the rest of the roller coaster to come to life as you continue throughout the build. I'm sure that once you've got your coaster up and running, you'll be just as thrilled with it as your minifigures are.
I've been waiting so long for a true roller coaster, and I'm so happy it's finally here! The build itself was pretty repetitive, but once I started putting the track pieces in place, my excitement kicked into high gear. I have it set up with power functions, and run both trains at the same time so I can watch it go round and round and round and round and round... :D Overall, an awesome set, but would love to see some slanted curve/corner pieces...and like others, a loop would be amazing. Also, the price point is really disappointing-I feel like this set should be at least $100 cheaper. Even though I've been waiting since childhood for a Lego rollercoaster, I took weeks mulling it over trying to justify the high cost.
As a massive fan of the 12v train series back in the day (ah... the 1980s...), I was always trying to work out a way of setting the tracks up to have dips like a typical roller coaster. Thank you Lego, for finally designing a low-friction rail system and showcasing its functionality in this marvelous set. I have already purchased additional track and parts to attempt some more adventurous layouts, hoping to further automate it using an EV3 and sensors. Please Lego, do not stop there. Continue the theme park genre with working replicas of famous rides.
While the price tag is hefty, this set is truly amazing. Great build experience. The mechanisms are so much fun. There are lots of reviews already, so I'll just address a few of the concerns that appear in a few reviews: 1) The set is very, very solid. We moved it down a flight of stairs and it didn't even wiggle. (If you try to move it with one person, you'll probably want to separate it into halves first.) 2) Designing your own tracks is challenging. Roller coasters are engineering marvels and designing one that works is a highly complex task (this is true of video game coaster builds, other toy systems, etc.) This isn't a fault of the set. 3) The Pirate coaster (LEGO's other coaster set) doesn't have the right pieces (45 degree inclines) for building taller coasters, so buying several of those won't be a substitute for this one. Anyway, we loved building this set. It's impossible to walk by and not want to turn the crank a few times.
