Great self defense!

I bought mine for my Karmann before 1995, before concealed weapons carry in Texas. It has rescued a few people from mud and snow. I bought it as a self defense object as it is wonderfully balanced and easy to use IF you understand basic weapons. I bought one this year for a young lady friend for her car and taught her the basics of the weapon. Fantastically balanced piece. My pre 95 is still serviceable after all of these years.
I would recommend this to a friend!

As a police officer, I find many uses for this shovel. I've used it extensively in prison settings to determine if inmates were digging tunnels to escape. Improvised ropes used to climb prison walls can be cut with a single blow, thwarting escape attempts. It's been used to help free the patrol car from muddy roads. When used in conjunction with sniffer dogs, it's essential for finding buried illegal items (every K9 team should have one).

A very solid tool and well-made sheath. One edge is sharpened to use it as a chopping tool. Now I don’t usually carry a hatchet in my go-bag. Cold Steel makes quality tools and this one certainly fits that criteria. A little hint: take an oily rag and wipe it down just like a firearm. I live in a humid climate and tools will rust if not protected.

Packaging could have been better, my shovels’ tip was curled, a couple of stapled together thin wood slats applied on the shovel head could prevent this, but at a cost.
The shovel seemed overly heavy until I was on my knees , under low canopy, digging roots.
I ,of course , first, sharpened my shovel , And , I wrapped the handle with wire cord , to prevent rolling in my hand. But, With these preparations, digging on the ground was like manipulating warm butter. Seemed like the weight of the shovel was doing the work for me.
I have dug under a house using a short shovel from the hardware store; that was night , this shovel is Day!
