Purchased these to wear while my wife and I ride our ebikes and to communicate to each other when backing our RV. Had not realized there was an option for hands free operation, which we took as a huge plus and eventually is the reason for just three stars. First, right out of the box they were charged and using the push to talk, easy to communicate. We did notice if we were too close (like 5-8 ft) when we tested them, the reception was hit and miss. The issues began when we opted for the hands free. According to instructions, you use the app, bluetooth pair just one, and then select the hands free option. After than it should work flawlessly. Not so much...First, after the initial bluetooth pair I could stand about 10ft from my wife and see "loss bluetooth" on my smart phone. Internet said a smart phone connection wasn't necessarily, you just needed one to access all of the options. Ok, so back to the test. If we were lucky, our hands free worked about 40% of the time. I walked around outside and again, about 40% of the time could communicate with my wife. This percent was about 60-70% if I used the push to talk button. The manual says they can communicate about a mile apart. I don't think so, I think it's more like 100 meters and you have to be within site. They were cheap so we won't be returning them but we are disappointed.
This is a great radio in a small package. No more knocking a radio off you belt, or getting cords wrapped around everything. Works great around the Church campus for security communications. Small, lite weight and easy to use.
After running several tests with these radios....I am very pleased with the performance. I expected very limited range but was pleasantly surprised to find that they work very well with both vertical and horizontal obstructions like walls and ceilings within a structure and also quite well outdoors with trees and varied topography. Please keep in mind...that these are designed for use when the operators are in relatively 'close' proximity to one another. They worked quite well on my 10 acre wooded and hilly camp property where the topography allows good line of sight. Transmissions are crisp and clear, and the earpiece is comfortable to wear over the ear...not jammed in there...so you can still use that ear when not TX'ing. Phone app is a nice addition, which is free with sign-up or subscription needed
Great concept, mediocre execution. Extremely poor audio, ineffective VOX mode. Easy to set up, app works well, overall would not recommend.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hey Griff, thanks for the honest feedback! Audio quality should never be a question mark with our radios, so we definitely want to make this right. Shoot us a message at support@midlandusa.com and we'll help you out!
I bought a pair of Cliptalk radios to test them with our church security team. The programming app worked fine, but there was some initial confusion about how to program the team's digital squelch into the radios. If you use digital, pay attention to the table at the end of the manual to make sure you're putting the correct code in. Midland uses alternate designations for the standard digital codes. Example: if you want DCS code 054, consult the table and you'll see that you have to program Midland code 009 into the radio.
The radios worked quite well once we got them running and they covered an acre both inside and outside a steel-walled building with no difficulties. I don't care for the ear speaker arrangement and would prefer to have the soft ear buds, but the ear speakers are not a disqualifier in my mind...just a preference.
All in all, a good product which is more fiddle-free and easier to use than a full size handheld radio and external speaker/mic.
Small and discreet; light, but powerful ... the ClipTalk meets the needs of my team. We tested it on every inch of our campus and had no issues with communication anywhere. Small learning curve with the app, but otherwise very straight forward. Too early to say how robust and reliable they are long term, but they feel well built. Highly recommended.
These radios are impressively compact and lightweight, making them extremely convenient to carry. However, I wish they included a protective case to prevent damage and help keep track of them, as their small size makes them easy to misplace. I highly recommend these for any situation where you need to communicate without having to yell to get someone's attention; they are absolutely awesome.
the sound from mic is kinda sounds like you in a box it is not always clear ,but the sound i hear is wicked good .My radios will not go 8hrs it is less than 6 hours if that i like to sound i hear but what they hear not so good . I have charged them up a few times and they just want go 8hrs.I work construction and on dozer, roller, dump truck and other very loud equipment you can hear them but i go to hand held to talk back .That kind of defeats my purpose
