Excellent thermostat

We bought our two Nest E thermostats about a month ago. Installation was simple - took about an hour to get both of them hooked up and working. The box came with everything you would expect and I liked the little tabs to add to the wires as you disconnected the old thermostat. These little labels just made it easy to know what wires were supposed to go where. I liked that detail from in the booklet that came in the box and these little stickers where just where you would want them - right on the page where you needed to find them. Little detail - but great to see it handled correctly.
The setup was easy - took a little while to rotate and select the letters to get our wifi password in for each of them - but nothing was hard. The integration into my nest app on my phone was simple - just worked. That is pretty much the whole of the experience - just worked and worked nicely.
We had one unexpected surprise. One day we happened to be away all day - hospital appointment for me - so we left early at like 6am. We got home around 7pm. I can understand why the nest decided we were both out - both of our phones were out of the house by a long distance. It made excellence sense to save power and go into eco mode. However, when you aren't expecting a sudden temperature drop at home and you walk in after a long day at the hospital being poked and prodded... to discover that it's 62 degrees. That becomes really cold really quickly. So we quick - turn up the temperature to warmer and... '2+ hours' shows up on the display. Nice to know - glad you told us. But it's cold now... sigh. Needless to say - we learned about 'away from home' and 'eco mode' the hard way. A smarter approach would be for us to have thought about it before starting for home and then tell the silly thing to warm up the house. We saved energy that day for sure - generated a lot of heat from my spouse for sure and caused me to have to disable the 'away from home' option until it gets smarter (she is not in favor of coming home to a cold cold house).
I think the even better answer would have been that our location was clearly known by the nest app. It knew we were 40+ miles away from home and moving around a little bit (as we walked from area to area for different tests in the hospital). It probably even noticed that we started driving when the speed at which we were moving went faster than someone could possibly walk. I suspect that if it had noticed this nice little detail - and then decided to be smarter about things that the app would have notified us that we seemed to be heading back home, would you like the house to be nice and warm when you get there? It's weird that we have to 'tell' the app that we are going to be home soon and to get going on the heat.
Other than eco mode being a surprise when we were away - the nest e has been a joy to use. It just works. Hasn't caused any other problems at all. I mostly don't touch the settings as I almost never did in the past.
They looks nice on the walls where they are mounted. Downstairs is in eco mode mostly as we aren't downstairs in our house all that much.
I also like that adding the nest protect smoke detectors was easy and just integrated right in. I tried the smoke detectors first and found that while one would work, adding the second one never quite worked correctly. With the two nests added first - the nest protects both added without any troubles at all. Not sure why the order mattered - but seems to greatly matter.

Easy, fun product to use!

This is the first "smart" home device that I purchased for our house. It's really easy to use and was surprisingly simple to install. Since installing this thermostat and learning the quality of the Nest products, I have ventured out and purchased several more Nest products. I am looking forward to making my home "smarter" with Nest products.

Excellent value to the price point

I bought the Nest E through Eversource energy savings deal, at first I was skeptical. Once the package was opened, the simpistic and soft feel design won the first part of my expectations. Setup was breeze, espeically the UI is simpler than the costlier sibling. Also night motion sensitivity is excellent, it can sense walking across as far as 7 ft. Overall it's a very nice product for the price.

I was more than impressed with the cost and the white frosted look. I felt the higher priced nest contrasted too much with walls. The more expensive nest also was more high definition of a screen but you will not miss it because you cannot see the definition from the middle of the room.

I'm proud to say my husband and I have seen a major difference in our electric bill using less energy due to the Nest we purchased. We see the difference in our bill each month on much we have saved.

This is not the "cheaper" of the options. The nest E looks way more classy/refined/expensive than the original. The way it blends into the background and wakes when you are near is a wonderful experience.
