Unit does not work as described.

I was excited to receive my Sun Joe 48-Volt Scarifier and Dethatcher. The assembly was pretty easy. A PRO to the 48-volt Sun Joe is that it has the right amount of power the unit. When running the dethatcher, I couldn't believe the amount of thatch this unit was pulling up. I also love the fact that you can adjust the depth of the unit. Now, the bad, the batteries for this unit does not last long at all. You need two to three sets of batteries to do a small yard. After about 1 1/2 passes of about 10 feet the unit cuts off because either the batteries are getting too hot or it produced too much resistance for the motor. So, I walked much slower for the resistance of the motor. Walking slower didn't work like I thought it would, the unit still cut off. Per the instructions, I removed the batteries and waited five minutes. That worked, but the most frustrating part about this was it took me two days to do my small yard plus having to recharge the batteries. The way it sits, this unit is of no use to me because it just does not run long enough for me to get the job done. What a major disappointment. I am looking to return the unit or see if they have something that will work better.

While it was working it did a good job. Unfortunately the motor died after 1 season. To purchase the motor alone was the same as purchasing a new machine. Glad it worked well, sad it died so soon. I don’t have a very large yard and it’s been dethatched every 2 years, I don’t understand what happened but I’m not a mechanic. Live and learn.

Good product, can be better

I am glad I bought a detacher versus renting one as it has paid for itself. This product works well, but I have two major complaints.
1) It doesn't matter how low I cut my grass before scarifying or dethatching, or at what setting I have the height at... I am constantly having to reseed the battery if the motor decides to "stop". My lawn is only about 1100sq ft, but on average I am reseeding my batteries 20 - 30 times. It is very frustrating as I lose momentum when I am trying to work on my lawn.

Great product just missing 1 thing

Great product. Easy to use. Love the cordless mobility compared to the plug in. I wish they offered a turf sweeper for the unit with a nylon brush roller for my yard and artificial turf.

Seriously, a must have!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been renovating my lawn due to it being overtaken with weeds and having poor grass coverage. I am impressed with how much thatch this Sun Joe tool has so far removed, plus it's helped remove all the dead weeds that I killed earlier in the season. I've made a lot of progress towards my lawn care goals with the help of the dethatcher kit. The scarifier attachment is a lot more aggressive and I make sure to mark where my sprinkler heads are to avoid damaging them. There is a lot of power in this electrical tool and it covers quite a bit of ground with two fully charged batteries. The tool offers a good deal of settings in depth positions to meet my needs. Since my yard is in rough shape I think there is more thatch then the catch bag can handle. I've since just ran the tool without it and rake up the debris afterwards, this has been the most efficient way so far. I'm not very familiar with lawn care but I've done a fair amount of research and I'm grateful to have such an impressive tool from Sun Joe to help me along the way. I read the instructions a few times before using and was able to put it together and get it running without any problems. I can navigate this tool through my yard quite effectively and look forward to having a healthier lawn later in the season.

A must have

This has done wonders in removing a great deal of thatch plus the dead weeds that I killed off earlier in the season. I have made a lot of progress so far with the dethatcher kit and this Sun Joe tool has shown great capability in helping me to achieve a healthier lawn. The scarifying feature is more aggressive and I need to be careful when using around my sprinkler system. There is a lot of power behind this electrical tool and it will get the job done. It's very functional to meet a variety of needs and settings. It'll cover a pretty good portion of ground after being fully charged. Having a second battery is super ideal. It took me awhile to figure everything out as I'm not that experienced with yard care, but after I read the instructions and figured out how to change the attachments I've had no problem getting it running and navigating it through my yard.
