This is a great sounding product, perfect on the patio. Trouble is, it does not play well with the SONOS controller. I basically have to pair it every time I use it. And when combined other speakers it won't disconnect and often just doesn't play until you turn it off then on again. It is very frustrating. But as I mentioned, it sounds great!
I purchased the Move as a companion to Sonos Port and Sonos Amp. The Port feeds into my stereo receiver which powers two pairs of indoor speakers and two pairs of patio speakers. The Amp powers my outdoor kitchen speakers and takes the outdoor TV input (thanks HDMI ARC). The Move is the "free safety" that can move around the backyard and help keep the music evenly distributed without having to crank the other speakers. First, the pros: The Move sounds great. Great companion speaker for my home office. Great by the pool, when everything is working. My overall plan is working as designed and I'm happy with the overall Sonos experience. The cons: The Move is "fickle", meaning it has a hard time connecting to the Sonos system and picking up what's playing in my zones. This could be related to my WiFi, but there's nothing to indicate whether it's connected or not. Where's the sound to alert me to a connectivity problem? There doesn't seem to be a sound when I power it on, just when I power it off, so I'm never sure if it's really on and trying to connect. Finally, when it does connect, the sound can be spotty for a few minutes. I usually have to fight with turning it on/off a few times to get everything working right. What's worse is that my teenagers and wife have a hard time getting it to work, too, so it takes away from the overall experience of Sonos. Overall, it feels like it's missing some usability features that would help me better diagnose product state/errors/etc. Also, considering that the Move is splash resistant, where is the rubber cover for the USB-C port? It's already corroded after two months of indoor/outdoor use. I'd like to use that port as a second charging option (i think that's supported...) but I can't do that until I clean the corrosion off. Seems like a shortcut that should be reconsidered. Overall I have a hard time recommending this specific Sonos product, it's doesn't quite deliver on the "Move" promise...
How does Sonos charge a premium price for a mobile speaker that you cannot pair with another Move through Blutooth? How did they miss this??? Great if you have wifi, but what if you actually take both with you for camping, tailgating, on vacation, or anything outside a wifi radius. Wish they would fix this soon. I have Sonos all through my house and pretty satisfied, but this one is a head scratcher. Way overpriced for that limitation,
Pros: Superior Sound, Wireless
Cons: Can't pair with another Move through Blutooth, Difficult Setup
I have been a lover of my one Sonos product for over 6+ years. It was time to upgrade our Bluetooth options outside. After about a year of use, the Move did stop connecting to our wifi network. After about 45 minutes of troubleshooting, the unit was defective. Though initially, the first year warranty looked expired by a day or two the representative said he would help. I had to make a follow up call, but Sonos did the right thing and replaced the unit and I am awaiting my replacement. I point this out to say besides the big glitch I have experienced nothing but amazing service from Sonos. Companies that stand behind their products are so rare these days. If you need an audio product, Sonos is usually the most expensive. However, the sound quality and the quality of their integrity are really worth it. Highly encourage you to pick a winner vs. knock-offs that you will replace much sooner than the quality products here!
Pros: Easy to Set Up, Expandable, Streams All My Music, and More, Superior Sound, Wireless
I've had a Move for about two years now and have mixed feelings about it. The portability is its killer feature -- I often use it as a floating speaker between my kitchen, garage, and back patio. In these situations, it can be really excellent. However, compared to my others Sonos speakers, it is also the least reliable. I often have troubles connecting to it, even with no problem to my other Sonos speakers. I have to turn it off and back on again multiple times, try connecting to before connecting to other speakers, and do other weird workarounds to get connected to it. If Sonos could improve the reliability of this speaker it could be truly great. If you plan on having the Move be more permanent than portable, I'd encourage another speaker option. In the meantime, I hope Sonos will fix the connectivity issues with the Move!
Pros: Different Music, Different Rooms, Superior Sound
The Sonos app is horrible and pairing up speakers is a very difficult task as well as getting it to stay on the Wi-Fi. When in Bluetooth mode it sounds good but it also keeps turning itself on. I would not recommend
Cons: Difficult Setup, Difficult to Use, Unreliable
Portability and sound quality are great - this speaker can fill the whole backyard. Connectivity with the app has been troublesome - often the speaker says its playing or not, appears as offline despite being connected and powered on, switching between bluetoooth and wifi hasn't been great.
