Very durable not big and bulky like some protective cases. I farm so I use my phone as a tool dropping it a lot and the commuter case hold up to the test. Never have I damaged a phone due to the case. I have damaged the case and otterbox no questions asked replaced it. I would recommend it to any one.

That smooth outer surface is a design element intended to aid in retrieval from pockets and such, though we certainly aren't out to encourage any mishaps.
Our Defender Series has an outer slipcover made of synthetic rubber that will provide a bit more grip, so that might be worth checking out as a potential alternative.
