nice light battery but doesn't hold a charge

I bought 2 of these 20V drills but after using them for an hour or so, they lose their speed. I keep having go change the batteries and its a pain. I like DeWalt tools and own quite a few but this model drill is a disappointment. The charger is a little awkward to load with one hand, it takes 2 and still a bit awkward.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this in June of 2019 and I returned it to Lowe's a week later. The adapter is next to impossible to remove from the tool after you insert it into the compartment. The batteries will go dead in two days or less if you leave them in the adapter, even though the adapter is not being used. I was really disappointed in a DeWalt product that performed or should I say with the lack of performance in this manner.

Great, but with limits.

At first look this is a great option. I have 5 different tools which this works with and yes the adaptor is difficult to get out and if you leave the battery inside when not in use it will discharge. But these are simple issues to deal with, just take the battery out when not in use and buy an additional one so you don't have to switch them out as much. I have two of them for 5 tools. However, the adaptor limits the power going through it and shuts the tool down for a couple of seconds and then comes back. This gets quite irritating when you trying to use the tool under high torque conditions. My screw gun, sawsall and hammerdrill all exibit this behavior. My screw gun(DC668) and Circular Saw(DW936) my favorite tools to use really bring this out. When the tool starts to really draw power under heavier torque conditions they constanly cut out. If you put one of the stock 18v XR batteries back in it, the tools work without flaw. Its not the 20 max batteries either because it does this on all 4 of them.
This adaptor should have performed equal to or better than the 18v nicad batteries, but the performance drop is just simply not worth the price.

Extended the life of my old 18v XRP tools

I bought this as my two 18v NiHm batteries are starting to tire out with maybe half of their original run time. This seemed the logical step as I have added a couple of new 20v Max series tools to the good old 7pc. 18V XRP set (All still working after 8+ yrs btw). I will concede the point that the adapter is a little challenging to remove. My solution to that was to use an older 18v along with the Li Ion adapter when I intended to use two tools at the same time. I have not experienced the power drain issue reported by others as I always remove the battery from the tool before putting it away. I have however left a battery in the adapter for at least a week and it still had three bars when I went to use it. In regards to the shorter life of these batteries......they are smaller!. The kit comes with two 2.0Ah batteries. The older 18V XRP batteries are 3.0Ah, 50% larger, so they would have longer run time assuming the batteries are still performing at optimum. With that said, my newer Lithium batteries have a comparable run time as my older Ni 18 volt.

Not sure why this only has 2.5 stars but I believe it deserves all five stars. The new kit names the new battery stronger, lighter, and smaller than the 18v. The batteries let a long time and charge quickly.

The DCA 2203c kit let me use my existing 18v hammer drill, saw and other 18v tools with the new ION batteries. Works great, more power for hammer drill.
