Wait For Revisions
on January 31, 2023
Posted by: Pickle Doodle
I got this new product because I like the Lunch Crock but wanted more capacity. The Lunch Crock had revisions over the years to fix things and the CrockpotGo will need revisions too. I don't recommend the current version.
As others have said, unlike the Lunch Crock, only the bottom of the base unit has the heat plate. The food container is just stainless steel (ie. not 3 ply to help spread heat) so the heat does not spread much to the sides of the container. The bottom of the container can be very hot since it's directly touching the heat plate but the sides are just slightly warm. So your food is almost purely only heated from the bottom instead of from both the bottom and sides.
As another person said, water does get trapped inside the lid after washing and hard to get out. If you don't make sure all the water is out, mold may grow inside without you knowing. I may eventually stop using this because of the potential for mold hidden inside the lid.

Heat doesn't spread evenly
on January 29, 2023

Seems like Crockpot copied those other cheap electric lunchboxes where there's only a heating plate on the very bottom of the warming base instead of lining the entire base's inside with metal like their slow cookers.
The bottom of the inner container gets very hot but the sides are barely warm. The heat does not spread well. I guess it's easier to remove the inner lid because the top of the inner container isn't hot at all (ie. pull the lid while pressing on the inner container). However, I'm left with unevenly heated food where the bottom is hot and the top is slightly warm or still cold. Not a worthwhile tradeoff. If I leave it in longer, the bottom food can become very hot and hard.
As far as heating goes, the 20 oz Lunch Crock is better but it has too little capacity. Too bad the 24 oz size seems to be discontinued (still smaller than the CrockpotGo but it'd have more even heating).

Uneven Heating
on January 28, 2023

Unlike the smaller round Crockpot lunch warmer, only the bottom of the base has the hot metal so the bottom of the inner container gets very hot. However, the heat doesn't spread very much to the sides of the container causing uneven heating.
Depending on the food being put in, I've had the part touching the bottom actually getting dry/burnt while the sides weren't that hot.
I also had 1 of the rubber feet missing. They're easy to pull off. Since the CrockpotGo doesn't actually come in a box itself (just slipped through a paper roll with mostly everything including the feet exposed), I'm guessing the feet gets rubbed off/caught on something while being moved around the warehouse before being put into a shipping box.

Could be better

I have some issues with the product, but it does what it needs to.
I like the size as I chose it for that over the other model. It does warm my food.
Onto the issues, there seems to be some manufacturing issues that just slipped through. It is missing one of the rubber footings making eating awkward. While it does heat up my food, i have noticed that it heats unevenly from the bottom. My unit also came with some cosmetic scuffs on the lid, but nothing that was overly noticeable. The manual for the product is not the best, no relative warm times for how much you fill it up. I've been warming up my food for 2 hours if the box is full and around 1 hour to 45 minutes for when the box is half full.
Overall it's an alright product, would definitely wait for a better version or some time for the manufacturing issues to get resolved.

Design Flaws

I got this because the 20 oz Lunch Crock was too small for my lunch. However, based on initial use, I saw at least 2 issues so far:
1. After washing the inner lid, water gets trapped inside. You can hear it swishing around when shaking it. Seems like there's a cavity inside the lid. It's difficult to get it all out. This has the potential to grow mold and bacteria inside the lid.
2. Only the bottom of the warmer has the metal heating element (the sides are just plastic/air gap) so the bottom of the inner container gets much hotter than the sides causing uneven heating of my food. In comparison, the other Lunch Crock warmer has metal all around to spread the heat so the inner container gets evenly heated.
Also, mine came with one of the rubber feet missing.
Other than the larger capacity, this has been a downgrade from the Lunch Crock. I'm returning this.

Convenient at work!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This crockpot is super convenient and easy to use. I've used this to heat up soup and leftovers at work and it works well. The carrying container has a handle for transport and plugs in once you're at your destination. I leave mine plugged in for at least an hour and my meal is warm and ready when I am! The tin container comes out and is dishwasher safe. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this for warm meals at work!
