The weight, the width, the length, the little bit of rock, the d-shape, the steel . . . everything came together for me when I stumbled upon this little gem.
I had been researching nakiris for months trying to find the right one that would be somewhat stainless, but easy to sharpen, without breaking the bank.
I knew of Shun and the quality, but had been too deep in researching the smaller Japanese knife makers. Well, there sure are a lot of great knives out there and it was difficult to decide until I found this one on sale.
As soon as I unboxed it, I knew that this was going to be passed down to my children. I will take excellent care of this work of art. It cuts like a dream, shines with a gleam, and fulfills a dream: sheet cutting cucumbers for sushi. Ha, that and so much more!
This was my entry into Japanese knives. I gave it to my son in law who fell in love with it. I currently own a high carbon Nakiri from Japan. It cuts better and has better ergos. It's care is much more demanding, but I'm fine with that. if Robbie hadn't lusted for this, I would still have it. It is a very good knife.
I'm currently enrolled in culinary school and use this knife regularly when I cook at home. I received this as a gift on Christmas. The blade is thin and sharp. It makes dicing, slicing, and julienne's much easier to perform. The precision is incredible. I will most certainly expand my Shun collection.
I cook everyday for my family. I got this knife as a little reward to myself. It is amazing. The workmanship is excellent. Veggie prep is fast and easy.
It is delightful to use this knife in my daily routine!
I am a Chef of almost 30 years and very proud to use such a fine quality hand crafted blade in my kitchen every day. They make cooking such a joy and a pleasurable experience and command the deepest respect from the user and Chef alike. Easy to maintain, elegant and razor sharp. Simply fantastic... Nothing beats a Shun...
I got this knife for Christmas. It's a work of art, I work in a kitchen 6 days a week. My veg prep is not only quicker and easier, it's also much more consistent. I love the knife and every detail about it. It's weighted very nicely and the grip is perfect. I can't say enough great things about it.
I have over a dozen knives from several brands and I continue to add shuns over others. they are sharp, well made, beautiful and shaped with function foremost. the nakiri is my favorite every day knife: light, easy to handle and makes quick work. keep up the good work shun.
