Don’t buy-Unless you like frustration-HDCP errors

This unit constantly delivers HDCP error messages with YouTubeTV. I’ve tried all the crazy suggestions listed on Roku’s site. This is thing is a piece of crap. Probably have at least 6 other Roku NON-4K units between 2 residences and none of them have this issue. And I’m NOT even using it with a 4K TV. STAY AWAY - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

Error

Frequently shows error messages and to get rid of them for a while you have to unplug power cord and the HDMI cable. This is apparently an ongoing problem that is noted by users online. It would be nice if roku fixed the problem to save customers the headache of having to deal with the problem.

Hi there, we're sorry to hear about your experience and we're here to help! If you're seeing an HDCP error message on screen, we have a few tips. On our Support site, we have a helpful article and video that will walk you through some more detailed troubleshooting options at go.roku.com/hdcp.

In the meantime, you can try to use a different HDMI port on your TV or a different TV in an attempt to isolate the issue. As a reminder, always use the cables and adapters provided with your player when possible, as not all cables are created equally. You may also want to try using a different power source. For example, if you're currently using the TV as your power source, try plugging the device into a wall outlet instead.

We hope this helps!

Hi there, thanks for reaching out. It sounds like your player is having trouble communicating to your TV, and we're here to help!

Try to unplug all cords and re-plug everything back into place. Be sure that you're pressing firmly to secure each fastener.

Once this is complete, check to see if your Roku powers on. To do so, press the power button on your remote to wake the TV and then the home button to wake the Roku. You'll want to look for a red or white light on the front of your Roku player.

If the light turns on, that means everything is securely fastened. The Roku should automatically connect to your HDMI source and appear on your screen. But if you TV still says, "no signal", try some of the resolutions within this Community article: https://community.roku.com/t5/Playback-Issues-Audio-Video-Power/HDMI-port-my-Roku-is-connected-to-has-no-signal/td-p/530307.

If there is no light on the front of your player, that means that your Roku is not turning on. You'll want to visit this FAQ article for more troubleshooting assistance: https://support.roku.com/article/219327988.

We hope this helps to get you up and streaming soon!

Hi there, thanks for taking a moment to share your feedback with us. Signal strength can vary due to factors and we're here to help! Be sure that your router is within range of the device and avoid obstructions like cabinets and walls when possible.

Other devices currently accessing the network, such as other streaming players, computers, game consoles, and mobile devices may effect the quality of your network connection. You might want to temporarily stop using any such device and check if that makes a difference. If your router and Roku device both support 5GHz, you could also try connecting to the 5GHz wireless network for improved network strength.

Additionally, please reference our helpful FAQ article: http://go.roku.com/connectivity. This page will provide you with common concerns, troubleshooting, error codes, and recommended actions.

We hope this helps!

Everyday I hope and pray it works

I have 2 on in my bedroom and one in the livingroom and 80% of the time it's a guessing game if it will or will not work. I've contacted support I've gone through your help list even Google searched help. I have to unplug are you ready my roku device from my TV all the cords then I have to unplug my TV from all it is hooked up to wait 5-10min sometimes longer and that's still no guarantee it has fixed the problem, not to mention I have to reset my Roku devices yes both it happens to both devices I've gone through several HDMI cords cause the one it comes with only works maybe 2 or 3 times. So in order to use either of my devices the error message keeps telling me I need a tv that support HDMI, My TV has 3 HDMI PORTS all 3 work just fine and MY BLU-RAY PLAYER work PERFECTLY and the quality of Video and Audio a million times BETTER than that of yes BOTH my ROKU devices. This is quite the pain in the "Buttocks" (I'm trying to be polite). If this is how it's got to be then I'd rather pay for CABLE SERVICE and throw away these ROKU Devices. Have to say it I fell for the hype of free tv but at what cost my SANITY??? Not sure what I'm going to do about this yet but cable is sure looking good right about now!!! SMH and it's every ROKU I've tried not just the 4k+.

Hi there, we're sorry to hear about your experience and we're here to help! It sounds like you've tried some of the troubleshooting basics, which is a great place to start.

It sounds like you may be experiencing and HDCP error message. To successfully stream 4K or HDR content, all devices connected via HDMI must support HDCP 2.2. This includes your TV, an audio/video receiver (AVR), and any other devices connected in between. If even one device does not support HDCP 2.2, then the 4K or HDR movie or TV show will usually result in an HDCP error message on your TV screen.

On our Support site, we have a helpful article and video that will walk you through some more detailed troubleshooting options at go.roku.com/hdcp. Or to learn more about HDCP 2.2 settings, visit this FAQ article: https://support.roku.com/article/230317588.

We hope this helps!

Terrible audio

The sound goes on the fritz and sonds like a scratchy throat. Absolutely way behind on audio quality. ROKU blames IT ON EVERYONE ELSE. My apple box never has an audio problem. It's ROKU.

Response from roku.comBy RebeccaRoku Customer AdvocateMay 5, 2022
Hi Carson, thanks for taking a moment to share. There are many reasons that this could be occurring but we'd like to help and narrow it down for you. For example, does the sound occur even when the TV is muted? Has the audio always been like this from the start or did it begin recently? Does it seem to happen on one channel or every channel (i.e. Netflix and YouTube and Peacock TV)?

In an effort to isolate the issue, we'd recommend trying to connect your Roku to a different HDMI port on the back of your TV and also trying a different HDMI cable. Be sure to use the Premium High Speed HDMI cable that was provided with your Express player for the best experience.
