I purchased the Bose Ultra Open earbubs for my wife as a surprise Christmas gift. The only problem that she had with them is that the case that it came in didn't say closed, even with the Bose protective case. She used them the day after Christmas and while she was walking, the case was open and that is when she realized that the case was defectived. I called Boses and they said that there was nothing that they could do because they were lost. I explained to Boses rep that the case was defective and didn't stay closed after the first use. I bought my wife another pair after talking to Bose and they work fine. I called back again and THEN they said that could give me a 50% discount after I purchased the second pair and would refund me the 50%.

I love and hate these! I love that I don't get SWAMP EAR since they have an open design. I love the way they last all day and are completely comfortable. I love that I can listen to my book, radio or music while going about my daily chores or shopping without being disconnected from those around me. I HATE their interface with phone calls, they are terrible with iPhones. I hate the fact that they don't read out texts like my PowerBeats Pro, which I love, except that they are in the ear. I bought two pair (me and my nephew) and we are still deciding whether or not to keep them.
Bose Ultra Open Earbuds are awesome for listening to music or any sounds (podcasts, etc.) as you'd expect. The design of these earbuds is amazing. With the open design, you hear everything going on around you, and the they're exceptionally secure on the ear. The earbuds look great on the ear. The disappointment remains the sound quality to the person on the other end of the line when you're on the phone with these earbuds. For earbuds at this price, I expect perfection. This is not my first pair; I have the original Smoky White pair, but I ordered the latest addition in color (Sunset Iridescent) not only because they look nice, but to see if there had been any improvement in the microphone quality for calls. Unfortunately I'm getting the same responses when on calls: 1.) I can't hear you. 2.) WHERE ARE YOU? You sound like you're in a cave. 3.) I can't understand you; your voice is dropping in and out. It would be so helpful if Bose could either do a software update to help or offer pointers for HOW TO GET THE BEST RESULT from these earbuds when you're on the phone. One discovery when on the phone, it seems the listener on the other end hears me better if I intentionally speak more softly or do NOT speak as loudly as my regular speaking volume. If this is true, that would be a good detail to communicate.
I bought these a few weeks ago, I love them! They are pretty easy to control and they have great sound. *The only thing I could think of that would make them even better would be to put a small strip of padding on the Inside of the buds that would wrap around the ear to pad between the ear and the portion of the Earbud that Grips the ear. It gets a bit sore after while because you don’t want to take them off.
I have been using the open earbuds for few weeks now. These are really great for a active lifestyle, running, hiking or in the gym. I have used them while shopping and in the malls. I really like it how they stay in place and are light weight so the ears do not feel fatigued. Also while listening to music one can hear around the surroundings, which is helpful. The bass/volume on the music is good but not at the same level as Bose's in ear buds that I also use. I would think this is expected, because the speakers are clipped outside the ears and one would hear the music accordingly ( instead of the ear phones inside the ear ). The only con, for which I am unable to rate this higher is the call quality. Even with cranking up the volume all the way cannot hear what the other person is saying! For anyone using ear buds often for calls it would be a challenge. Maybe I have not found the right setting or maybe there may be some future firmware update to hopefully improve this.
