Purchased this bag 3 years ago and I USE MY BAGS. 45-50lb carry almost daily. This bag held up to it. Finally the zipper started tearing from the front compartment, however, after reaching out to support and filling out the warranty request they got me a new bag after I mailed mine in and I was ready to get back out there!
I love the sturdiness of this bag, it is heavy but most good camera oriented bags are. The supports in the bag itself are well thought out and makes loading the bag easy. There are a good amount of pockets with lots of easy access points. I don't use side access so I have the side zippers locked in the main compartment, thanks PD for thinking about this security feature. I have been trying to use this bag for most trips for the last few years, restrictions really cut down on where I could go. But this is not a bag that you want to wear as a backpack. I carry it around like a duffle bag 90% of the time because the shoulder straps are not comfortable at all anything over 10 lbs will start the straps digging painfully into your shoulders because of limited padding and poor bag stabilization. If the straps had more padding, load lifters to stabilize the straps and hip belt stabilizers it would be a different story. Or if the bag just had wider straps similar to the shimoda backpacks it would probably be my favorite bag.
With a travel backpack V2 please take some tie to look at other camera backpack manufactures like shimoda or hiking bag companies like Osprey for a better harness system and improve the straps so we can use this bag to actually carry equipment.
I travel for work all the time and this bag replaced everything I used to take. I’m a one bag traveler now. This bag has enough space for one week of clothes and it’s comfortable enough to carry as a backpack or as a duffel.
I've bought this to streamline my travels. Was able to pack everything my partner and I needed for a three-week trip to Brazil! The bag is amazing, the organization features work perfectly, and it is very comfortable to carry around even when fully loaded. Am planning on using it on my trip to Europe and Brazil this summer (will pack everything I need inside for 8 weeks of travel)!
I have been using this bag for over a year on many trips. It is overall ok and once you get used to its quirks you really appreciate it more.
The good: -High quality materials that look very sleek, are sturdy, and easy to clean. -The inside is very spacious with many compartments and pockets. -Compresses down to a smaller size and can confirm that it passes as a personal item on Spirit flights when compressed. -It stands upright by itself. -Side access is great. -Being able to tuck the straps in is nice to keep everything looking organized.
The bad: -Bag is heavy. -The sternum strap is a pain to use. It looks nice but functionally it is hard to engage, and to disengage you need both hands, not ideal when traveling when one hand is most likely holding something else. -Hip supports are pretty much useless. -Straps are not the most comfortable and the back is not well ventilated, so it will get hot. -The compression clips come undone easily, especially if the bag is fully loaded and you grab the side handles. -Side pockets are too tight. Getting a water bottle in is hard and is a two handed operation.
Been using this backpack since the Kickstarter, and I will never look back. It goes with me everywhere (It’s been to four continents!) and it’s like new. Supreme quality and design. This bag is basically my most prized earthly possession.
I bought this backpack primarily for travel, so a lot of the features that it has for photographers is not for me (ie. side access) Pros: Stylish bag, keeps shape and protects what's inside. Seems fairly water resistant (rain fly can be added to make it waterproof). Strap hideaway system is convenient for travel. Expandability is a nice feature when needed. Amazing water bottle/tripod pockets that are deep and gusseted.
Cons: It's a heavy bag at 4.5 lbs, and combined with the relatively thin and narrow straps, it doesn't make for the most comfortable carry when it's fully packed out (I try to keep it under 10kg's). I really don't like that the sternum strap detaches, or isn't better secured. It seems like only a matter of time before I lose it (it already came off once, but luckily I noticed).
This bag is THE bag for shooters who travel and for anyone else who like to stay organized while away from home base. I was on a 1.5 week travel job and fit everything I needed in this bag. The mag flips in the bag are awesome and really keep everything tight when not in use. Being able to access the main compartment 3 separate ways saved my a** many times. Love this bag, I’m going to take it everywhere.
