I love the flexibility of this bag. With the camera cubes I can effectively pack my gear and even use the cubes as a sling. The ability to compress or expand the bag in useful ways is a plus as well. Very happy with my purchase.
I bought this a couple months ago for my trip through Central America and a few sailing adventures I had planned. I am six weeks in and it has held up perfectly. The only complaint I have is the main divider layer just got in the way, so I unzipped it and kept it rolled up the entire time. It would be nice if Peak Design could make it detachable? I use the little pockets to stash little things like money, chapstick, keys, phone, passport etc. and they are very secure and out of sight. It holds my rain jacket, computer, chargers, umbrella, drone bag, the Peak Design toiletry bag, medium size compression PD bag which holds my 10 shirts, 4 shorts and 1 pair of pants. It also holds the small PD compression bag with 8 pairs of undies and 7 pairs of socks. These could probably hold more clothes inside them honestly. It rained so much in Central America, however the material held up and everything remained dry inside. It does weigh more than hiking-specific bags and the shoulder straps don't have any elastic cushion/shock absorption, so they aren't the most comfortable. It does get quite hot in the sun, but other than that it has served me quite well. I never had to use the expansion zippers. If I were back-packing in nature, carrying gear such as a tent, hiking/climbing gear etc, I would go with a more light weight pack. Since I stayed in hotels and hostels and sailboats, it was perfect for my situation. I plan to keep using this for the next few months while I continue traveling to different countries. 10/10 would recommend for regular travel, business travel and to school/work!!!
The last picture with the blue neck pillow attached was when I first packed it before leaving my house. The rest were taken yesterday at the airport.
I originally purchased this bag for a 3 week trip to Europe after watching a million PackHacker reviews. It was a great fit for Europe and held all of our stuff with room to spare. The pop out hip straps are one of my favorite features because they hide away so smoothly if not needed. I actually had this bag stolen from my apartment and I just re-bought it for regular travel (weekend trips or work trips) and am loving it again!
I have been using my Peak Design bag almost every day for my daily commute to school, carrying my A7III with a 24-70mm, a 70-200mm, and a 16" Macbook Pro. While it seems like a normal bag, the inside is full of features that really make it a great functional bag. The camera cube integration, as well as all the organizers, make sure all of my stuff is safe and sound. The clamshell opening makes everything easy to pack and organize but you still use it as a normal top-entry bag as well. The straps are thick and comfy and the hardware everywhere is super nice. On top of all that, I ride a motorcycle every day and find it very comfy on rides from 10 minutes to 3 hours. The fabric is easily cleanable and everything has held up great so far. If you are hesitant about this bag, I would highly recommend it.
I bought this bag as a flight bag for work/light travel bag and it is amazing. The various snaps and zippers allow the bag to compress to a smaller size, while maintaining its look. The pockets and compartments are smartly placed and work well. My fav bag by far
My old camera backpack finally gave out and I needed to change things up. I LOVE the Peak 45L. The ability to change the bag up where needed from small gear and clothing to all gear is fantastic. The look and design are awesome.
I bought this backpack because of all the thoughtful design features. The top selling features for me are the clamshell opening to access the main compartment and the expandable/compressible storage. Unzipping the extension zipper and having that extra 10L of space makes a huge difference for the end of my trip when I totally end up picking up extra things and need more room. The foldable hip belts are a game changer. I like the external handles, there are multiple ways to grip your bag on the go which makes it so convenient. The construction of the bag is so sturdy and the material is durable, I don't worry about tearing or much damage even when I check my backpack for some flights. Packing the bag is so easy with the clamshell opening, you can instantly see everything inside your backpack by opening the main zip. All the pockets inside keep everything organised and eliminate the need more multiple smaller bags or pouches to organise things. For example, I have one pocket in the bag dedicated to my first aid stuff so I don't need a separate small bag to hold it as everything fits in the generous sized pockets built into the bag. There are multiple ways to access the main compartment, from the back of the bag, the front and even from both sides! This is handy when you only need to access something from certain places in the bag. Like the laptop sleeve in the back of the bag, you don't have to open the front up to access, just zip the back open and you can quickly pull out your laptop. It's small details like that which really add up to this being the best travel backpack I've owned. My only critique is the limited colour range. I would prefer a more feminine colourway. I chose the green and it's alright but not my favourite colour choice. But the bag is so good I can overlook the colour.
I bought this bag for an overseas trip and had the opportunity to try it out on a week-long business trip. I shoved more than a week's worth of professional clothes, shoes, jewelry, makeup, laptop, books, and other stuff into the bag and it held up like a champ. I especially liked the expandable front that I needed at the end of the trip to tuck the tchotchkes I was given into it. It still fit in the overhead.
