This bag is built like a tank and the hide away back straps are great. Handles on all sides is a must and love the interior side pockets. Only downsides are -the water bottle pockets are awful. They need to be made bigger. -The hidden pocket for the lash straps feels like it could come open making them fall out, so I put them inside one of the interior side pockets. - no tidy slide for the adjust straps on the back straps? some velcro ties fixed that issue. -The sternum strap is awkward to use. The top handle could be placed at the center of the top of the bag for better balance.
I’ve taken the Travel Backpack 30 on 22 flights now and think it’s great but not perfect.
Great: - Lots of storage space + looks great, primary use is fantastic. - Waterproofing is amazing
Could be improved: - The loop that allows you to slide the bag over your carry-on isn’t wide enough to prevent the Travel 30 from sliding around when fully packed: you should expect the bag to slide off the top of your carry-on - The little pocket on the front of the backpack is your only storage option for easy to grab things, it’s way too small. Just a battery pack and my wallet is an extremely tight fit, not to think of storing more things. - Airlines will mostly let you store it under your seat, but once in Europe they did not. It’s huge under your seat, do not expect to extend your legs at all.
Just used it for the first time last weekend for a short city break in London. Kept everything dry in the rain and was comfortable to wear for 4+ hrs of walking.
This bag is alright. I own two of the 45L bags and i just love them. I was just looking for something a little smaller for shorter trips. Comfort is normal, nothing too exciting. Nice looking bag. BUT, left out the side access and the better design features of the 45L. Traveling with this bag not so great, when you have to access something mid-flight or on the street. For the price i would have expected all the great design ideas of the 45L. I would recommend you just spend the extra cash and go with the 45L for better on the go accessibility. In the end i just went back to using the 45L and gave the 30L to my friend.
Before the TB30L was created by PD I had bought the 45 Liter big brother of it. Because there was no other backpack with all the hug advantages this superb backpack offers to a photograph, musician, traveller or commuter. It's so practical like no other backpack I've known before. BUT: At some occasions it is just too big. So, here comes it's little brother to save the situation: The 30 liter travel backpack! For daily use it's just perfect sized and it offers all the practicability I am used from his big brother in every condition. Superbly done, Peak Design. I can just recommend it!
