GOOD Quality of the bag is great, these bags aren't cheap and I looked at many brands to find what fits my needs. It really looks sleek in design and quality, something I'm sure will last for years to come.
The expandability is very handy and the bag still retains its shape.
The way the bag opens is like a suitcase, so you can easily access everything you need to.
NOT SO GOOD I had read it on reviews but it was still worse than I expected and reason for lifting 1 star. The straps aren't that comfortable. At the end of the day, I could have only worn it for a couple of hours in total, but my back ends up hurting from it. I'll be looking into if I can get pads or something for it.
Other thing that's annoying but not a deal breaker is the pocket at the top, I wish it went deeper. It's really small. Or instead of the magnet upside down pouch on the front, a normal zip pocket I'd actually use. I don't trust that something wouldn't fall out of it and be lost, so basically I never use it.
I wish the laptop compartment was separate from the whole bag, so I didn't need to open it up to all my things in the bag to take/put in my laptop.
I just took this backpack 22 hours from San Diego to Florianópolis Brazil. 22 hours of travel. On the way home, I got stuck in sao paolo for 25 hours making my trip home 49 hours. On that epic journey, this thing performed. It paired perfectly with my larger away carry on and I had space to spare for over a week trip. When it is zipped down, it feels just right and the expansion leaves plenty of room for a longer trip. With this combo, you will never need to check a bag. I love that the straps can be put away, the handles on each side, the top pocket and a jacket is easily strapped to the outside. Great bag. I did find that when keeping the bag on my roller, I wished there was a pocket to stuff my passport and phone for security. The top pocket is taken up by a pair of Bose headphones. That is easily avoided by using the away with pocket which is great for stashing pocket items at security.
My wife and I have been traveling for over a year with the PD 45 carried in a 35 L configuration. We were able to switch her pack to the new 30 L size. Makes for a lighter carry and better fit for her frame. Also perfect for shorter trips when you’re traveling for a month or less. Absolute great build quality as we have come to expect from PD. The only major design change I missed from the larger pack is the smaller flaps for the straps and lack of magnetic closures.
The Travel Backpack has all the features that I was looking for from thoughtful design and functionality to solid materials and workmanship. I also love the overall vision of the company, the way they operate and the thoughtful words used on the website, materials, etc.
Some airlines have smaller carry-on dimension restrictions. That’s what sets the travel backpack 30L apart from many others. The features are solid. The bag is sleek. Use compression packing cubes and it can carry what you need. I’m loving this pack.
I haven’t actually used this yet, so this review is only of the features. I like that there is a huge inside space for packing clothes and my iPad Pro which is what I was looking for. the little zipped accessories pocket is useful. I understand the purpose of that upside down pocket, but for me it’s ridiculous. I am using this as a travel carry-on. I won’t be taking it out on hikes or be traveling constantly by train where I end up. So I won’t be using those extra straps. I do wish however that the upside down pocket were right side up. It would be useful to put a small sketch book and art accessories in there. I can’t so the next best thing is my tote pack which has a clip on it which will keep it from dropping if the magnet fails. Otherwise I love the size, the sage color, the feel of the material. It will work…just not perfectly because of the upside down pocket space!
I own 2 of these and I find them to be very versatile because of unobstructed room inside the bag. I use packing cubes and pouches to organize the inside of the bag. The expand-ability also helps when you need to pack a little bit extra or just need the room because you added some items on your trip. The zippers are easy to open and close. I especially like that it is narrow because it fits nicely under the seat in an airplane while giving you room to put your feet beside it. The quick access pocket is also easy to get to in this placement. I also used the stowing feature of the straps in the plane as well. The quick access pocket was for items I reached for frequently. I will say, the water bottle holders are a bit too small for most water bottles but I used them for smaller items (like tissue paper). The additional straps came in handy to carry a sweater or jacket in my travels as well. I was lucky enough to score the Huckberry version with Xpac material for added water resistance. I can't wait for my next trip to try this new version out!!! Overall, I highly recommend this bag. Keep in mind that you have to provide your own organization.
