Samsung's flagship soundbar just got better(ish)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Samsung's Q990H continues the tradition of best-in-class excellence with its latest iteration of the flagship soundbar system.
Context to consider with my review:
- I am no expert, not a sound or audio engineer, nor do I understand the true technicalities of the audio universe. I just love sound, and having the best experience watching movies/shows and listening to music at home
- I don't have the ideal soundspace. I have high ceilings, an open floor layout in my living room, and no back wall.
- I am a previous Q990D owner and my TV is the QN900D 8K.
- I am still "breaking in" the system (if that's a real thing).
Sound Quality:
the Q990H delivers some of the best "wow" moments I've ever heard from a soundbar. It has an improved surround sound experience compared to the D model, creating a more expansive and wider soundstage. With movies and shows the distinction is less notable, but with music the improved enhancement is clear as day. When listening to my playlist, the sound felt more refined and true to the original recording.
I listened consistently between 8-18. I pushed the volume all the way up to 50 but couldn't handle it for more than a few seconds. 35-40 was the loudest I could comfortably go--but I never felt the need beyond 18 while watching all kinds of content (streaming, Bluray, 8K, live TV).
The bass has less rumble and I'm catching myself less "blown away" compared to the D, but I also don't feel like I'm missing the previous sub because the H's bass feels much cleaner and tighter, with less rumble, suggesting improved sound fidelity.
Features:
the H comes with a bevy of new AI-enhanced features, including Sound Elevation, Auto Volume, Moderate Bass, and improved Spacefit Sound Pro and Active Voice Amplifier Pro.
I've found Auto Volume to be inconsistent when going from a show I'm streaming to commercial break. Sometimes the sound truly is consistent--whereas sometimes the commercial is still much louder.
Sound elevation is meant to elevate dialogue to the center of your tv screen, so it utilizes Q-Symphony. With it on, dialogue has moved to the center but at the same time feels more hollow to me.
The jury's still out for me on both features. I wonder if it'll improve with time. But if done right, both features would be small but sizable improvements over the D.
Overall, this is a strong contender for best in class soundbar, with loud, crisp, clear sound. Absolutely worth the money upgrading from tv speakers or a lesser system.

Excellent sound from the soundbar leader

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am replacing the flagship of one manufacturer with the newest Samsung flagship, the 990H. My previous model was a 9.1.5 with wireless rears and subwoofer. The 990H is an 11.1.4 soundbar system also with wireless rear speakers and subwoofer. It includes AI tuning features for multiple sound settings. For compatible Samsung TV owners, Q-Symphony is available to use both the TV and soundbar audio simultaneously.
Pros:
- Room filling, immersive sound with clear voice
- Handles Atmos content extremely well
- Easy to set up and configure
- AI features for tweaking the sound
- Brings the action at you from all sides
Cons:
- Subwoofer has shrunk from previous models, and bass seems to suffer a tad (but still tweaking settings).
- Price – at this range, a component system may offer better bang
This is a well-built, high-quality sound system. Unpacking and setup were simple, and the available app(s) made fine-tuning smooth. Connected to a Dolby Atmos source and content, the room becomes alive, putting you in the middle of the action. Whether it be the chaos and danger of the Normandy landing in ‘Saving Private Ryan,’ or the audio carnival of ‘Mad Max- Fury Road,’ this unit does not disappoint. Even regular TV watching is more fun with this system. Sports (F1 and baseball) and real-life reality (cop shows) come at you from all sides.
Upgrading from a competitor flagship, I realized what I have been missing since replacing a much older version of the 990 a few years ago. My newly retired soundbar always seemed as if it couldn’t reach a peak of sound or bass. The rear speakers just didn’t give me that ‘You Are There’ vibe, and the sub could only rattle the room when the volume was turned up high enough that the sound was distorted. The Samsung has plenty of oomph on both the surround experience and the bass, although I wonder if keeping a bigger sub would mean an even better experience.
Overall, this is an outstanding package to consider. The Samsung 990H has taken another step forward in melding AI technology into the world of audiophiles.

Monster bar set for soundbars!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Unlike the unlimited options of sound bars available today, samsung's q990H model offers a plethora of features that are new or better enhanced then the rest. Whether it be an audiophile or a quick quality listener.Samsung q990h has what you need to enjoy the moment of sound.
Intense dialogues are enhanced to give the depth of feel for any emotion. Ai adaptive sound enhances the viewing experience by making movie scenes like action scenes "pop" with a listening quality that you have never heard the likes of before. Sitting in a quite setting while waiting for the scary scene not expecting but expecting to come is a movie scene where it's all about the immersion and the "pop" of the scene with the samsung q990h leave that perfection to grab your attention to the Ai sound option all which are avaliable when picking your soundbar experiences on the smarthings app trust me you did'nt know how much you needed this feature until you try it then you wonder how any soundbars will be released without this feature and evan be an option for 2026 and beyond this is a gamechanger.
One of the greatest quality subwoofers I have ever tried and I've built a home theater system so knowing a thing or two about "quality" bass is very important having a gorillas roar shake your floor and you feel the ripple from your seats is an experience to have.
Setup was super simple and quality workmanship on materials used as samsung is well known for the q990h has opened and spoiled me and is the only option in my living room moving forward great job samsung.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I believe that this is the sound bar that is put Samsung over the top if you're looking for that movie theater experience with the deep base that you can fill this is the soundbar for you I owned the previous soundbar so I can tell you the changes that they've to this sound bar for the right ones. Owning the previous version of this soundbar I can tell you the subwoofer change that they made and I do believe that they change some of the drivers to give you a better theater sound experience was the right direction to go if you see this sound bar anywhere you should give it a look at it's well worth your time to listen to

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The soundbar is very powerful and also vivid and immersive. It enhances the experience of listening to music, gaming as well as movies. It complements the aesthetic of my TV stand too. It works on wireless and have full surround sound. It also fits perfectly with my existing TV system. I highly recommend it for people who enjoy music and movies and TV series. It is also compatible with my Playstation.

Great overall soundbar package

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've used lots of different soundbars and have a dedicated AVR 11.4.2 living room setup.
I'm using this on my bedroom and it replaced a previous 11.4.1 soundbar from a few years ago.
The main soundbar is HEAVY and well built.
The rear satellites are of good quality as well and synced out of the box with no issues.
The sound separation is excellent, giving good all around sounds for excellent surround sound for movies and games.
The overhead sound is also top notch.
The subwoofer was a bit of a let down compared to what I was previously using but it's very tight and accurate without being too boomy.
I would have preferred a bit larger subwoofer but overall it's still good.
The smart things app is so-so and the instructions say to use a different app but it's Smart things you need to use to adjust settings.
There's an AI mode that seems to work well but I couldn't find a actual room calibration option yet, which would be cool.
You can adjust base/treble, speaker levels, change inputs, volume, and a few other settings.
I've tried different modes and features but liked the defaults the best so far.
I would recommend this unit as it offers a lot of performance without the headache of a fully dedicated AVR.

Theatre quality sound in your home
on April 1, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had honestly started to lose faith in soundbars until I finally purchased this set up and hooked it to my TV. The sound quality is amazing. My previous soundbar would be turned all the way up, I actually have to keep turning this down it’s so loud and crisp. I don’t struggle to hear conversations anymore…I can even hear background noise that I definitely didn’t hear before. It’s truly a game changer for a home theatre.
I wasn’t expecting the bar and the subwoofer to be so heavy. My previous sound bar I could handle with one hand, this one needs two. It’s barely a con though. It is also a lot bulkier than I thought it would be; however, I’m willing to take these superficial cons to have this amazing sound.
Pros: Sound quality. True surround sound. My tv remote controls the sound system so I don’t have to use two remotes like my previous set up.
Cons: It’s a little heavy and fairly large. The subwoofer is also a lot heavier than I was expecting. (I have no other cons to this equipment so far and even this is barely a con)

Room Filling Thunderous Dolby Atmos Experience
on April 1, 2026

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pros:
1) The soundbar, rear speakers, subwoofer linked each other automatically. LED indicator at the back to show Link status.
2) The rear speakers, soundbar and subwoofer come with 4 power cables (2 – 8 feet long and 2 – 5 feet long cables) and you can use them on any of these devices based on distance from power outlet
3) App setup was a breeze as I already had Smart Things app.
4) You are able to switch between various sources like Bluetooth Devices, Digital Audio/Toslink port or TV through HDMI/ARC and 2 more HDMI sources
5) Very Loud Thunderous Room Filling Sound you will hear very clearly from everywhere. I did not increase the volume over 24% as it was already loud
6) Setting allows you to automatically adjusts the sound based on the room with Spacefit Soundpro setting, Sound elevation fills any audio into a room filling sound, Active Voice amplifier helps you in listening to voice more clearly during movie scenes.
7) Sound Mode lets you choose between Standard, Surround, Game Pro and AI Adaptive Sound and I prefer AI adaptive as its very accurate to adjust for movies and songs
8) Equalizer allows you to change the Bass and Treble settings. You can change Channel Level and sync audio if there is a lag between the video and audio
9) Advanced Sound setting allow you to add voice, bass enhancement and switch to Night Mode or make the bass moderate or enable virtual sound
10) All the above settings can also be changed using the including remote although I used the app most of the time
11) Q-Symphony is a unique feature where this system works with Samsung TVs speakers to give an even more enhanced experience
Room for Improvement
1) The soundbar and rear speakers are big and heavy. The subwoofer is of the right size though.
2) You need to figure out a power outlet for the rear speaker as these require power connection. The audio connection is wireless though with the soundbar
3) I wish there was a passthrough HDMI as well so that I could have connected my Google Chromecast and other HDMI devices with this Soundbar and the output to TV
