replacement filter

The filters are a good buy, but there's a funny extra cardboard "topping" on part of the top of the filter which does not allow it to fit unless I cut it off. This does not seem to compromise the body of the filter or its effectiveness, but I wonder why it's there. It was not on our original filters.
