Too tight to fit without crimping

These are small enough that even the A/C repairman had to squeeze the cardboard hard after asking me why it's so hard to install. Filterbuy seems to be the only source during the pandemic, since my usual dealer closed for now. I tried again today to replace it, but it is slightly handing out of the sides, and the cardboard is very hard to squeeze or crimp as needed.
