I’ve had my vitamix for prob 7 years now, used for a few month period 4-5 times a week until I got frustrated that it would jam and would spin trying to make a simple smoothie. Constantly having to remove lid which was a pain and stir. Used plenty of liquid. Did not overfill. Pitcher quality is poor. Cloudy and stopped leaving it on counter because looked dirty. I agree with others about the plastic quality…finally just bought a nicer looking Bullet Blender.

Hi, we are sorry to hear of your experience. All of our containers come with a tamper to use while the machine is running so you do not have to keep taking the lid off. We have included some general blending tips for your reference when blending with Vitamix.
Check Your Speed
When starting the machine, make sure the Variable Speed Dial is turned to 1(or, the ‘Stop’ position). Turn the machine on and turn the Variable Speed Dial from 1 to the highest speed your Vitamix has within five seconds. The Vitamix machine performs best on High speed to pulverize food and process thick mixtures.
Check Your Quantity
When processing denser ingredients, like cooked potatoes, cooked rice, or cooked beans, this creates a heavier than normal load on the machine. You may want to consider reducing the food quantity placed in the container by half (depending on how much food you started with) as well as adding a bit of liquid.
Follow Order of Ingredients
Place ingredients into the container in the order listed in your Vitamix recipe. If working with your own recipe, start with a base of liquid (water, juice, milk), followed by softer ingredients (tofu, yogurt), then juicier fruits and vegetables (grapes, cucumbers), firmer fruits and vegetables (apples, carrots), frozen ingredients (frozen berries), and finally ice. If you use protein powders, they should follow the ice.
Use the Tamper
If ingredients are not freely circulating, the tamper can be used to improve the flow of food. While the machine is running and with the lid firmly in place, insert the tamper through the lid plug opening and begin working it in the four corners of the container. As the food travels around the side of the container, the tamper directs it right into the blades. If there is an air pocket around the blade, the tamper will release the air pocket and create a continuous flow of food through the blades.

I have a 19 year old Vitamix 5000 base- that is STILL GOING STRONG! YAY VITAMIX!! However, my original container got cloudy and I decided to upgrade- and went with the 48 oz container about a year ago. The blending is fine, but this container is a mess to use. The pour spout is wide and flat and no matter how carefully I try to pour out my shakes - this thing manges to drip, drip, drip. The other issue is the lid. It's cumbersome to take off and put back on....which also makes a mess. Maybe the smaller container is part of the problem - not sure- but if the lid is not no perfectly on and locked down- stuff is flying out the spout and sides. I never had these issues with original container. The old container and old lid were the bomb! Just wonderful. The new style - just aweful. I really wish I had just bought the original style container as a replacement. Lesson learned!!
I want to end this review by stating that I love my Vitamix and use it almost every day - much more than any other item in my kitchen- so I highly recommend the Blenders. I just don't like this particular style of container.

The Perfect Size for Most Jobs

The 48 oz. container is far superior when it comes to making small batches. This is because the tapered, narrower base makes it easy for this container to create a vortex with less ingredients than is necessary with the 64 oz low profile containers. In addition, the 48 oz container is large enough for all but the largest of recipes.
I really wish all Vitamix blenders came with the ability to choose which size container that you prefer. My dream combo would be an A3300 blender with the tall thin classic 64 oz. container that comes with the 5200. I realize that the Classic 64 oz. container does not work with Ascent blenders; I just wish that it did.

Perfect size

I have three sizes of containers for my Vitamin, and this is the one I use most often. It is easier to clean than the 64-ounce Container and takes up less space. The 32-ounce container is really easy to store, but it is too small for many of my recipes. The 48-ounce container is the perfect size.

I have the tall 64oz container and wanted something a little smaller. This does the trick. Came with the smaller tamper and works great! Love my Vitamix!!

I love how versatile this smaller blender container is for storing and using! I never feel like I have to make a smoothie that is over 5 cups when I just want to make the blender blend. Its going strong and I see many years of use to come!

Disappointed with container

I use my vitamix everyday but very disappointed with the plastic container. After a year or so it becomes stained and cloudy and looks just terrible. Honestly I'm ashamed to let it on my counter for others to see. Too bad it has a plastic blender jar that doesn't stay clear. And it's very expensive to replace. Also start/stop switch is broken already.

Hi! The container can sometimes form a film or cloudiness from the minerals in the healthy fruits and vegetables we blend in our Vitamix. When this occurs, we recommend pouring equal parts of water and white vinegar into the container. Let the container soak in an upright, standing position for several hours, then pour the contents out and use a soft pot scrubber to clean the inside of the container. Please be cautious when cleaning around the blade assembly. Also, please keep in mind that it may take several attempts before the staining/discoloration is completely removed.
