I purchased this a few months ago to have a dedicated wired headphones set for my computer and i am thrilled with its performance and reliability. I honestly dont think i will ever need to buy another set of headphones, until this one breaks, of course.
I have owned mine for around 20 years, and after replacing the headband (someone sat on them and they snapped), the wire and finally the worn out ear pads, they still sound just as amazing and feel brand new. What seemed like a stiff price at the time turned out to be amazing value and quality. I own McIntosh and Focal HIFI gear, and I do love high quality audio, and I have never felt that I needed better headphones. These sound really really amazing and the quality and parts availability make them the buy of a lifetime!
Paired with Schutt Jotunheim headphone amplifier via Hart Audio balanced XLR cable, the clarity, presence, and transparency of these headphones reveals the true and full presentation of my audio sources. Whether used in an audio engineering workflow, video editing, mastering, or just listening to high-resolution audio, there is incredible separation of individual sounds/instruments within the sound stage and broad stereo imaging. The open-backed design allows for slightly reduced bass volume that allows your ears to hone in (and focus) on everything else that's happening with a given audio source, while also providing enough low frequency response to keep a satisfyingly round fullness to audio sources. Ear cups are generally very comfortable though the headband was (initially) tight enough to be uncomfortable for wearing longer than an hour or two at a time; after three months, however, the headband has stretched or relaxed enough that I can wear these headphones comfortable for several hours. Overall, extremely pleased with the HD 650 as a premiere headphone for a variety of uses.
Now I understand why these are so loved by so many

Quite possibly the perfect headphone. Velvet-like smoothness, lush, and expansive, but at the same time, detailed. I power them with a McIntosh MHA100 headphone amp, and get lost in the music every time. I like the comfort of the HD650, and I think they rank among the best in that regard. So, with their smooth non-fatiguing sound quality combined with being supremely comfortable, there is a lot to like these.
I bought these around 12 years ago and they are still some of the nicest sounding headphones I have ever heard. They are probably the best for value vs quality of sound in my opinion.
