An Impressive Monitor for Work and Play

This monitor is a huge step up from previous OLED displays I’ve owned. Right out of the box, the brightness is noticeably better, making it great even in well-lit rooms. The USB-C connectivity with power delivery is one of my favorite features, I can connect my work laptop with one cable, charge it, and switch back to personal use effortlessly. The build quality feels premium, the stand is sturdy, and the overall design is clean. Text clarity is much improved over older QD-OLEDs, with color fringing essentially gone, making it fantastic for productivity and gaming alike.
Now, I personally prefer a glossy finish. Though not necessary for most, I carefully removed the matte anti-glare coating to achieve that glossy depth I love. Even before this personal mod, I’d rate it a solid 8/10. With the change (which I wouldn’t recommend to everyone), it hit a 10/10 for me. Whether matte or glossy, this monitor offers outstanding brightness, connectivity, and overall quality, I highly recommend it!

At first glance the Samsung Odyssey G80SH looks like last generations Odyssey G8 but with the inclusion of the much requested Display Port 2.1 and USBC 98W connection. And if those were the only changes I would say they were a good upgrade from last year's Odyssey..
But there is so much more that I feel is flying under people's radar..

The first thing you might notice is full HDR500 certification instead of HDR400. This already tips you off that there's something new about the panel itself and not just new connections.
The 2026 Samsung Odyssey G80sh (And all 2026 Samsung panels) use what they call Penta Tandem technology.. Which is a fancy way of saying they added a fifth layer of OLED emitters. Which might seem redundant but it's actually meaningful.
The fifth layer allows for higher average brightness of 300 nits instead of last generation 2025 Odyssey G8's 250 nits.
This gives the Odyssey G80sh a average brightness equal to WOLED monitors while maintaining QD's insane 99.5% color accuracy.

TLDR, if you were choosing between QDOLED vs WOLED based on color accuracy vs average brightness, the Odyssey G80sh is a win win.
Samsung also claims that the fifth layer of OLED emitters helps spread heat and increase the lifespan of the display against burn in despite the higher brightness making this one of in not the most burn in resistant OLED panel yet!
And that's not even the end of it..
Samsung Gen 4 Penta Tandem QDOLED (Used here) feature V stripe sub pixel layout. Eliminating Text color fringing that is a common complaint with QD's.
AND they use a blackout film similar to other brands. Samsung calls it "Quantum black" film, which sounds fancy. But it does the job. eliminating the commonly complained about purple/magenta hue that can be seen on other QD panels in bright rooms.

Speaking of bright rooms this monitor is fantastic in them!
Overhead light, open drapes. It doesn't really matter. Whatever Samsung is doing with their Odyssey "glare free" finish seems to hit a perfect sweet spot of clear image and no reflections. And the new 300 nit brightness and black film make this monitor look perfect in well lit rooms.
It's no Livingroom TV levels of brightness, but for a 32"/27' PC monitor it's fantastic!

Overall I feel like Samsung sort of quietly fixed all the issues people had with QDOLED's with this generation of panels and few people are really picking up on it.
DOWNSIDES:
Expensive.. I appreciate that it lands in the same price point as last generation's Odyssey G80, letting the G80sh be a straight upgrade at the same price. But it is still on the priciest end of QDOLED 4k monitors.

Naming.. Finding the exact model and year that you want is a pain. There are SO many monitors that use the Odyssey naming, and you really do have to pay close attention to the specs. This is obviously true for most tech, but with Samsung monitors it feels extra tricky because they release several Odyssey G8's at a time..

Navigation button.. It feels kind of cheap at this price point, and at my desk it's a pain to twist my wrist around and try to navigate. Which is a shame because I frequently find myself dialing in picture settings from media to media.
Refresh Rate.. It's hard to complain about 4K 240hz, and with the Display Port 2.1 the Odyssey G80sh is able to take full advantage of this combo with no compression. BUT it would still have been cool to see a refresh rate bump or even a duel mode at this price point.
Overall I'm torn between 4 stars do solely to the price. And 5 stars do to the fact that Samsung really did fix virtually every issue that remained with QDOLED's.

Been using Samsung products for years I gotta say this may be the worst product I’ve experienced. I had plenty of Samsung gaming monitors to tvs and even their ecosystem and enjoyed it but nothing came as underwhelming as this product here. I tried it for a few days now and a few days after that hoping this product is good or maybe I’m still adjusting to it, but this product ain’t it. It not as good as it describes. Not satisfied with anything with this product. I’m not happy with the performance and the quality. This product does not live up to its expectations it’s just looks and feels like a normal 4k monitor. It this was just going to be just a normal 4k monitor I woulda just looked somewhere else and bought one. This product ain’t it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
