4K Gaming Sweet Spot

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Samsung 32” Odyssey G7 OLED is an amazing monitor. I bought this for my primary gaming computer because I wanted something that could easily outpace the 60Hz refresh rate of my old screen. At 165Hz, this fits the bill. I could’ve gone for the higher refresh rate of the G8, but my computer couldn’t handle that refresh rate at the resolution and quality I want anyway, so 165Hz suits me fine.
First, I want to say that the quality of this OLED screen is superb. The colors are crisp, vibrant, and have good saturation. The real strength of OLED is the deep blacks and contrast, which make games and videos look fantastic. HDR on this panel also looks nice. It’s not at the level of some OLED TVs I’ve seen, but it still looks very good. At 4K resolution, the crispness is amazing. I watched some 4K videos and was impressed by how good they looked.
Gaming on this screen is a treat. I particularly enjoy Flight Simulator, and the quality of the display exceeded my expectations. The immersion this screen delivers is incredible. Other games, like Forza Horizon 6, were also extremely enjoyable, and enabling HDR make it look even better. The 165Hz refresh rate is obviously noticeably smoother than my previous 60Hz display, and support for adaptive sync technologies like AMD FreeSync Premium in my case helps keep gameplay smooth and free of screen tearing. The display also has support for NVIDIA G-Sync.
I also tried the Dual Mode capability, which increases the refresh rate to 330Hz at the expense of resolution, limiting the display to 1920x1080. This mode is not preferable for my usage as there is a noticeable softening of edges compared to 4K. Since I don’t need 330Hz, I leave this mode off and am perfectly happy with 165Hz at 4K. I can see why a competitive gamer would like this mode, though.
Connectivity is average, but not bad. Display connectivity is through DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1. While a USB-C or Thunderbolt connection would be nice, the absence of such is non-critical. The monitor is also lightweight and thin, making setup easy.
To summarize, this monitor is very impressive. The colors, brightness, contrast, and saturation are all there. The OLED panel delivers excellent image quality, while the 4K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate provide a great balance of visual fidelity and smooth performance. I would buy this again in a heartbeat.

Huge upgrade from my old monitor

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Coming from a monitor with pretty low pixel density, the difference was honestly massive. Everything looks way sharper, especially text, games, and smaller details that used to look kind of blurry on my old screen. The 32-inch size is great and the higher refresh rate makes games feel noticeably smoother too. I didn’t realize how much the low pixel density on my old monitor bothered me until I switched to this one. Really happy with the upgrade so far.
