Loud and proud

We just bought and had an electrician set up a switch for us. Since we have a gas line in our backyard, the TriFuel model was recommended. We live in a 1,500 SF home and - when tested on that gas - the generator seemed stout enough to run our entire home. Full disclosure: we have not had to use it to the fullest extent (for more than the time to test) as we haven’t encountered a power outage yet. The true test will come when a storm leaves us without for a day or two. The reason for the 4 star vs the 5 star is because as strong and might as this machine seems, I do wish there was a way to muffle the sound a bit. We have neighbors that may care how audible it is - hopefully we can pacify any disturbance they have with the offer of coming over and “riding out the storm” with us.

My first generator, so not the voice of experience. Worked well overall with transfer switch during our only power outage so far, about 8 hours. However, the 6 UPS's, mostly cheaper but a couple higher quality, scattered throughout the house did not like the power supplied. Continuous beeping (i.e. using battery backup), the annoyance I did not sit through to find out if they would ultimately fail. (I powered off all devices and the UPS's themselves.) While that was pretty disappointing, it kept the lights on, refrigerators running, etc. Have only used gasoline thus far.

This is my second generator from Westinghouse. The first one lasted ten years and I was not going to take a chance on any other unit. Quality, craftsmanship, and dependability are number one.
