The digital meter displays current volts, frequency, life time hours, hours since start and maintenance reminders! This is very useful when you don’t keep track of the hours. Over all good experience.
Just received the 5300 with electric start, the quick setup instructions very easy to follow, includes everything -wheels, tool kit, oil and even a funnel ! Gassed it up - pushed the electric start ...... fired right up, average operating sound for a generator, ran smoothly, no leaks or drips ! Gave it a quick test with two 1875w hair dryers ..... no problem ! The WGen replaces a 3500w manual start , I can get spoiled with this electric start ! And like with anyone who buys a home generator "I hope I never use it" but in this New Normal , it will be getting it's use !
My needs for standby electric power generation relate to unexpected power outages. When the power goes out I need backup power to run a septic sewerage pump, a refrigerator, some lights, and if it is winter time the furnace fan to keep the heat on in the house. The combination of being able to provide 5000 watts with a low weight (107 lbs.) and on be on wheels were critical selection criteria. These features made this model a prime candidate, and when I added the Westinghouse name, it was my choice. When it arrived and I got it unpacked and assembled, what I found was a compact, well designed and durably constructed portable generator that was easy to maneuver and manage. The user manual that is part of the package is first class - very well done! As an inexperienced person, the user manual was able to guide me through the entire process from unpacking the equipment to pulling the recoil starter handle. When I reached the moment of cranking the engine for the first time, after following all the steps, I pulled the handle once, I pulled the handle twice, and much to my surprise the engine fired up and was running. I was amazed at how effortlessly it was to pull the handle to get the engine started. Each time I have cranked the engine since then I have had the same effortless experience. I have run it through the 5 hour break in period not exceeding 50% of the rated running watts while alternating the loads, after running for the first hour without a load. I installed a ground rod and connected it to the generator with an 8 A.W.G wire. I also purchased a carbon monoxide (CO) detector and put it in the house. These are things I would never have known to do, if they had not been covered in the user manual. I checked the generator's voltage output with a volt meter and it was spot on. I am very pleased with this purchase!
