I BOUGHT IT FOR MY TRAVEL TRAILER. I LIKE THE REMOTE START, THE WHEELS AND HANDEL. IT RUNS 12,500 A/C & MICROWAVE AT THE SAME TIME. IT IS QUIET & I LIKE THE 30 A PLUG. THE AUTO CHOKE DOES NOT WORK! TO START IT YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE SIDE PANEL & WITH A SCREW DRIVER CLOSE THE CHOKE.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Data panel malfunctioning

Data panel malfunctioning. No fuel quantity or time remaining info. Just purchased for 4th of July outing. Started right up and ran 15 hours. Power output seems a bit low as I can't pull all equipment off generator that I can on 30 amp shore power service. Customer service seems responsive so far, so I will update this after I get warranty service, though it is frustrating to reload this new (heavy) gen back in the car and drive it 100 miles to a service center. Also quite irritating that the cover is no longer a bonus item though it is still sold on Westinghouse website. The literature in the box still says a cover is a bonus option for reviewing your purchase. Who wants a powerstrip? Not a great idea to disappoint a customer about to write a review....

Initial serious problem, but now I like it.

I am a mechanic and an electrician. The remote start/stop was (and is) very appealing. However, I feared a remote start meant an automatic choke that could fail. I read several accounts of others with the iGen4500 that, right out of the box, sputtered for a minute then stop, which meant shipping the genny to Westinghouse, and waiting 2-weeks without their genny. I wondered if these problems would be related to the automatic choke not working. Indeed, they were. Mine did the same thing. I went through the setup, started it, which sputtered for a minute then stopped. It was not going to restart. It sounded like the "automatic" choke was stuck closed. I opened up the side panel but didn't see anything that looked like a choke. Finally, I googled "iGen4500 choke problems". Score! Westinghouse had issued a service bulletin about this very issue. It showed how to manually move the choke (panel removal required), and presto -- it ran normally! The bulletin called this a temporary solution. "Step 2" was their "permanent solution", which required removing two more side panels (nearly 20 screws) and reattaching a harness that they predicted had become unconnected. Sure enough, it was disconnected. I reconnected it, buttoned it all back together, and now it works like it should. The connector makes a positive latch, so I don't believe this happened in shipping. No doubt it wasn't fully connected a the factory. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise, I'm now happy. It is surprisingly quiet. Plenty of power for my Airstream. The remote works, Gauges are nice. Get one.

iGen 4500 runs everything in a travel trailer and one 15K AC

This is my second iGen 4500. The first had multiple problems, the start/stop button did not work which meant the electric start and remote start did not work, lastly the engine would not start with the pull cord. After all that why would I get a second one? Well I found a lot I like with the first one cleanable/reusable foam air filter, dip stick had oil on it so I know it had been run at the factory, its compact size, fuel, time to empty, and amp gauge, and eventually once I got it started its quietness I was able to not starting with the pull cord after cleaning the spark plug and removing a several large chunks of carbon from the spark arrester, that's when I discovered not only did the start button not work but also the stop button, I was able to kill the engine by turning off the fuel, another feature I like. Although I disassembled the main control panel looking for a loose wire causing all the other problems, I never found a loose or not attached wire, which is why I returned it and promptly ordered another one. The second one came in and worked like a champ. After letting it break it with several small and medium loads for two hours (Which the manual does not say needs to be done) I hooked it up to my dual AC 50amp trailer. It worked excellent. If it is running with less than 1000watts load it is very very quiet. A 20" box fan makes more noise than the iGen. Two people could stand next to the iGen and carry on a conversation without raising their voices. Very impressive. Now once you give it a serious load it does make a little more noise as expected. Next while the iGen had nearly 2000watts of load on it (hot water heater, battery charger and idle state on the tv, microwave etc., I started the 15000 BTU AC unit and the iGen handled it fine in 93 degree weather, after five minutes I tried the second AC unit and the iGen overload kicked in (as I expected but I had to try) Although my experience started out very poorly I am very pleased with my working iG

All items listed on package were included, but Manual description of battery hook-up and its attachment to the generator were not the same as the actual configuation. Battery is connected to the generator using a plug rather than directly from the battery wires, and is secured to the generator using a rubber strap.
