Just received this unit, filled with oil, fuel and hooked up the battery. It started and would not hardly idle at all. Called customer support and told them what the issue was and they told me right off. These have a choke on the carburetor that is not mentioned and you have to pull the side cover to access it. She was a big help. Whoever the engineer was that came up with that on should get a 1 star rating. Other than that I’m perfectly happy with the unit. According to tech support they are aware of the issue and are currently working on a fix..
The unit started upon receipt and adding the provided oil. We went dry camping and the genset worked initially. I started having issues later that day. Would crank and not start. Then after a bit, would start. The next morning, no joy.Would not start at all, just crank. I looked up i4500 issues and found there is a Westinghouse service bulletin. I followed the instructions, but found that I needed to remove the side cover to get to the connector area. Bottom connector was almost out. Reseated connector and wrapped with electrical tape to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Put the covers back on and it works perfectly now. Here’s to hoping that was the only issue.
MY SUGGESTION: Perform the below check of the connectors as soon as you receive the unit. It might save you some campground headaches.
The product was as you said it was so far. It started up right away after doing the maintenance on it when it arrived. The only problem is it's a lot heavier than what I was expecting. I always camp alone so unloading it and reloading it will be a problem. I will have to make a hoist to load it in on the trailer rack. But so far I am happy with it.
Bought this generator almost a month for my RV and love it at first sight. Great price for a compact but powerful generator. Love the Start/Stop remote feature, especially when the wind pick up outside at 0200am. The noise is not that loud compared to other generator in the same category.
