I bought this primarily for an emergency, to keep my sump pump running through an outage. I also use it when I'm camping, to power my RV and it runs quiet and for a long time, since I only use about 30% of the max running load. I highly recommend this generator, especially if it's your first generator, because the control panel is very simple and intuitive to navigate. Plus, their customer service is exemplary.
Can't say right now how the unit will hold up. It did start right up and powered items (tools) fine. My rating is really based on the warranty servcie. The unit arrived damaged (a warped brace prevented assembling the wheels). When I called, I actually had a live person answer the phone who spoke English. I called on a weekend and tech service was only availble M-F, but Monday another live person called me back, took the details. When I connected with an actual tech person, he recognized the problem (I had sent pictures) and offered choice of a replacement part or a whole new unit-( I choose the new unit, since I was afraid that the shipping damage might extend beyond the warped brace). It took him a couple of days to get approval (due to illness on part of his manager), but he came through and I recived a new unit that same week. He also sent a prepaid Fed Ex shipping label, so I just put the damaged unit into the replacment unit box, and the next day it was gone back to Westinghouse. I hope not to have to call for service again, but feel confident that if I do need them- they will be there.
The Wgen3600 is just the right size for my small travel trailer. I have a Cougar 217 SW with a cargo rack on the rear bumper. It fits the rack perfectly and leaves me 100 lbs of additional equipment within the rated load carrying capacity of the rack. Plenty of power to run the single AC unit when needed. Adding this made me completely ready to boondock. Very happy camper!
Bought this primarily as a back up generator in the event of power loss during hurricane season. When it arrived, I took it out of the box, and followed instructions to start it. I put in the oil, put in the gas, and started on first pull. After starting, I noticed a rattle, which was from a couple of bolts on the front panel that weren't tightened completely. I cinched them down and that stopped. Then a little wire basket was ejected from the muffler, which landed on my foot, giving me a slight burn before bouncing off. Turned out that the screw holding the basket in had not been screwed in properly. Once the generator ran out of gas and cooled, I installed it properly. When putting the box away I found a piece of plastic broken inside the box. The piece of plastic was from the back of the housing that the fuses and receptacles are in, but it's up under the machine, so it shouldn't have broken during shipping. Also, I don't believe it will affect performance...so rather than dealing with the issues of returning and getting another one, I'll keep it. Just make sure to check everything out for fit and finish if you buy.
