We bought this last month to replace a smaller gas powered generator. Being that Houston storms can make getting gas difficult, we wanted one with more options, and the fact that we can hook it right up to our own natural gas is very appealing. We love the electric start because I couldn't start the pull start generator by myself, but have no trouble with this one. It started up beautifully with the push of the button and again using the remote key fob! We’re also thrilled that we can power up everything we need in the house. This unit is perfect for us!

Plenty of Power
on July 13, 2026

My new WGEN11500TFC (upgraded from the DFC I ordered - nice surprise) has plenty of power on gasoline running my entire house via the 50amp outlet wired direct to the main panel (with 15' of 6 AWG wire). Runs my R-22 2.5 ton A/C (no soft start), electric water heater, well pump and pressure booster pump, two freezers and a refrigerator, plus lights and other misc items. I won't run the electric water heater when the A/C is on to keep the load down, but it's nice to know the WGen11500TFC can handle it if needed. I did shut off the biggest loads before starting the A/C as the inrush current on the A/C is right at 60-62 amps, but once the A/C is running, I can add in the other loads and everything runs fine until the A/C cycles off. As long as I'm not drawing more than 8 amps or so, the A/C will start again with no issues, which honestly surprises me. I think the capacity of the WGEN is probably a little under stated. I may still install a soft start on the A/C but so far, it hasn't been necessary. Even with the A/C running and both freezers, refrigerator, lights, TV, etc., I'm only at about 5000 watts, which is still less than 1/2 the rated capacity of the WGEN11500TFC, so plenty of headroom left for the well pump and other random things, but I do try to keep total draw to a minimum.
It's loud, but not as loud as my 22 year old Troy Built 7500/13000 Briggs unit. I'm out in the country so noise isn't really an issue anyway. From 23' away at half load, I am getting right at 75db, which is pretty close to the Westinghouse factory claim.
Can't speak to longevity yet but we do have random power outages and even lost power for a few days a couple years ago so I'm hoping to get many years of sporadic use out of the WGEN11500TFC. I did a bit of overkill on the break in, changing the conventional 10W30 oil four times during the first five hours under varying loads up to half load, and had very minimal to no sparkles in the oil after the second oil change. It's now fully broken in, last two oil changes were completely clear, and I'm now running 5W30 full synthetic.
Time will tell but so far so good! No regrets.
