I wanted to buy an induction cooktop to finally replace a very old radiant electric cooktop but really floored by the price of Bosch, Thermador and the other big names. I found the Thor model and really curious because of the price. Well, the cooktop functions really well and can’t say anything bad! The price is incredible. I would highly recommend this product because I see no difference in quality. The double griddle burner is excellent as is the large burner. I like the controls and the layout. I will consider other Thor products as needed in the future.
This 30” induction cooktop was new in a house we recently purchased. I used an induction range at my old house prior to this.
Pro: smooth top, easy to wipe clean Con: settings are not backlit and very difficult to read w/o a bright light. Two separate touches are necessary to change power setting, unlike a knob which is far simpler and doesn’t require scrutinizing the numbers. Because it is difficult to see, it is easy to inadvertently lock the cooktop (hopefully will get used to this with familiarity. Overall, would greatly prefer knob controls.
I had an electric top before and it got so hot and never could cool down to a simmer. It was frustrating at times. I bought an induction cook plate for Black Friday a few years ago and have been using that primarily since then. I finally broke down and bought this so I can stop having to haul that plate in and out every time I wanted to cook something. I love it. It's just what I wanted and the price was right.
I have only had the cooktop installed since Dec 6th. It heats very quickly and takes a little getting used to. I read a lot of reviews before I decided to buy this cooktop. One person talked about how it only worked on a small portion of the pot, I understand what that person was talking about. It is similar to a gas stove where the flames hit the bottom are hotter but I think if your cookware is good it should heat evenly, but time will tell on that. Someone else had mentioned scratches easy. Oh yes I was so surprised it scratches so easily. I have had glass cook tops before and have had no problem with the finish (the black where the pans sits in this case) being easily scratched. It seems that the finish is not baked on as it scratches as easily as paint in my experience. The only thing that I think could have scratched the top was ground salt that may have got on the cooktop. It is very tiny but that was disconcerting. I might be putting paper towel under all my pots just to make sure I don't get a scratch. I will answer that I will recommend this product but hope I can change that in the future if the cooktop starts getting ugly or not working properly.
