Excellent size and functions, ease of setup & use

My wife gave this to me as an early Father’s Day gift. It was really easy to set up and the screen is very easy on the eyes and readable. It is a great dive computer. The rechargeable battery seems to do fine and lasted three dives a day. Easy and fast recharging. I would recommend this to any diver every day.

Great computer for old guys with bad eyes.

I had to replace my old diver computer because the software was no longer being supported. I bought one that my local dive shop recommended and dove with it once and decided that I needed something bigger (now that I'm older and my eyes aren't as good anymore). The Garmin Descent X50i seemed like it would work. I finally got to dive with it last week while on a work trip and it did not disappoint. As with any new computer, there was a learning curve, but it is small. After a couple of shallow shore dives, I felt comfortable with its features. I appreciate the real estate on the screen and the brightness of the backlighting. The dive app for my phone had a hiccup syncing but I think it was probably related to the inconsistent wifi where I was diving. I am very happy with this purchase.

Easy to use

Super easy to use the buttons are super intuitive. Gives great information and feedback. The battery life could be much much better. I would like to see an app for the Avalon system.
Also would like to be able to mark an exit point on a map for drift diving. Other than that, it’s a great device highly recommend

Great Computer!

I purchased it as a backup computer to my Garmin MK2i a couple of weeks ago. Used it on a week worth of diving in Cozumel last week. Beautiful display and easy to setup! It was my primary computer throughout the dives. I could not be happier with the purchase! Loads of information, technical data about the dive sites before your even enter the water.

Near Perfect Choice

Overall, a very good option. I’ll start with the two challenges. Subwave sonar creates an incredibly annoying “ping” from the transmitter that I haven’t encountered in other dive computer transmitters. Definitively the largest hurdle in deciding to purchase. Second, proprietary file system. I download my dives to my iPhone with Dive log (excellent app) and none of my previous dive computers had this problem but Garmin uses a proprietary file system. Good news is that the fix is relatively easy, so solvable.
The wins - great screen very easy to read in or out of the water even on a medium setting its really easy to see.
- easy set up and pair - love it - set up was pretty darn easy as was the process to connect to transmitter. I’ve had dive computers where the process was excruciating. This was a very welcome change.
- battery is fine - not extraordinary but certainly strong enough to last a couple days of diving. If you are on a live aboard, it’s a no brainer to charge between dives and day trips are no problem either.

Compass and other divers status

I have adapted my Decent X50i to my diver propulsion vehicle, the compass display is the best I had experience and as dive computer keeps my status and my dive body’s at a high level of awareness with little effort.
