I just got a chance to use it and to my suprise the voice activation is on point. you have to say the magic words "coast on" clearly and boom it turns on. i set mine next to a tv for a while wondering how many times it would think to turn it on, or turbo, ect.. none. im happy with it. im sure ill be even more happy come this winter when trying to adjust the beam is easy with gloves.

4.5 stars : voice control kills battery life

I have an earlier model headlamp from the same company. At the same lumen rating. As an automotive technician, I will say that new product with the voice control is very helpful. Comparatively to other products that have a motion sensor that is quite inconvenient in use. The FL 97R headlamp with voice control is the bee's knees. It's very nice to be able to adjust brightness and color of light by voice .
I will say my other headlamp that is comparable from the same company but without voice commands. My battery does last longer. Obviously it's going to take a little more power to always be active, but if you have the right battery set up, the exchange between batteries is very easy.
This lamp has easy focus adjustment and I like how they redesigned the battery pack to swing out a different direction from the actual angle of the lamp position.

Not for trail running

The voice control is great. I use it for night running on roads. When oncoming cars high beam me I can say "coast turbo" and return fire. And they notice. I can also "coast minimum" or "coast red" and not blind other people out walking their dogs.
Now that the negative. I really wanted to be able to use this for trail running, but I need to tilt the light down, but then one hard step and it flops down. The band is also not very comfortable at the light after long hours. And not easily adjustable. What I'd really love is this voice control on my competitor head lamp that frankly has better construction and a Boa adjustable band.

Voice control works great

I figured I would have to scream to get the voice control to work but you can speak fairly quiet and it picks up your voice. Great beam quality and it’s not too heavy on your head so it doesn’t sag down your forehead. Love it!

Great Light

I got sent this light to test by Coast. I found it quite useful, mostly while working on cars or plumbing. It works great in the rain and had no issues with it even after dropping it several times. The voice activation responds great especially when your hands are covered in grease and the light is nice and bright.
I did have issues with the housing. It didn't stay in place and kept falling all the way forward and kinda blinding myself.

Awesome headlight!

This headlamp is awesome! The voice commands work great. The turbo mode is really bright. The spot and flood are great. The spot reaches out to 20 to 30 feet easily. This light will light up an attic or a backyard. The red and green are great for low light situations or navigating hands free. Thank you COAST for another great product! This light is great for HVAC techs, electricians, hunters, and hiking/camping.

I cannot begin to tell you how many head lamps I have that simply just don't work or won't cut it. I have tried just about every other one and there is always something wrong and it's become increasingly frustrating trying to find one that will be up to my personal standards. And with this one here, I believe I finally have.
This headlamp delivers exceptional sustained brightness, very useful beam modes, rugged build, and long battery life. It performs like a professional tool rather than a gimmick gadget. The strap design has this center-of-gravity balance that keeps the lamp stable during movement and while bending over, minimizing head bounce during any activity such as gardening, working in a garage, or simply taking your dog for a walk in the lower light evening hours. It's just an exceptional piece of equipment that is added to my arsenal of tools.
The best and most impressive feature that this device has is the ability to listen to you and your commands, then promptly abides by them. You have greasy or dirty or oily fingers and dont want to get it dirty, simply state the command you need to have done, such as gettting brighter or dimmer lighting, or just turning it off or on altogether. I have not seen any other product do this and do it so well. I simply love this lamp. I recommend this thing to anyone and everyone in the need for a device like this. You will not be disappointed!

Great all around headlamp

This is a great all-around headlamp that has quickly become a regular part of my gear. I’ve owned it for a few months now and have definitely put it to work, using it multiple times a week for my job. The warm light setting is perfect for small, hands-on tasks, and the battery life is outstanding—it honestly feels like it lasts forever between charges.
The only downside for me is the voice activation feature. While it works, it adds to the overall cost of the headlamp, and I don’t find myself using it very often. That said, aside from this minor drawback, the performance and reliability make this headlamp well worth it.
