Amazing build

Yes its expensive, yes the bases could have been smaller, yes they probably should have been seperate sets, all that said, this is an amazing build. The attention to detail makes it aparent that Lego knows what it's doing when it comes to pokemon. The PPP is right on for what you would expect for an IP like pokemon. The build is a bit challenging, there are a lot of neat uses for different bricks that i dont think I have used before.
This is the second premium set i have purchased with poor quality pieces. Lego has built their reputation on quality and charges 4X more than competitors. What happens when corners are cut and quality goes out the window? Several dozen pieces in the first half of this set either have cracks or deep scratches. This is unacceptable.
This is a unique set. I enjoyed the build. Interesting to build from different angles as this set is not a typical linear build. And build round shapes with square pieces. The cost per piece is high but this one is definitely more than what meets the eye.
Firstly, while I sympathize with those who feel duped or tricked that they did not receive either of the free gifts, that has no bearing on this set or the rating it should receive. Every one of these 1 star ratings are petty and childish.
Now, the real review. I had immense fun putting this together, nostalgia aside. There are some little hidden bits inside each pokemon that I found to be a nice touch.
I took my sweet time and stretched the build out over about four days. It's been a nice distraction for me during an unexpected week off of work and has served as a great way to relive some stress. And thank you a thousand times for not giving me any stickers to apply. The colors are vibrant and fun and despite being three separate characters and bases, they all come together beautifully as one unit. Yes, charizards stand is boring compared to the other two, but it's really not meant to stand alone. I think maybe a bit more of a plume of fire or even some smoke that covered the black post joining charizard to the base would have looked more complete.
That aside, this was a fun build and I'd recommend it to any pokemon fan of any age.
Lego did a great job with this set. I found the build engaging and not too repetitive. There are little things here and there I think could have been done better, but overall I enjoyed this set.
I've never built a set over 700 pieces prior to this build. I been a Pokemon fan since I was a kid, and this one spoke to me. I had a ton of fun with this and it definitely has me wanting to do more large sets!
