Connecting to MacBook Air is hit or miss
on April 25, 2026

Do not buy if you want to use this on a MacBook Air. The first drive I purchased would only connect to the computer intermittently. I have tried this on multiple Mac's with the same result. I sent this back and received a replacement drive and still have the same issue. Returning for another replacement wouldn't make sense if I still have the same issue.

We're sorry to hear about your experience. Please ensure it is firmly connected and try a different port, cable or computer to help isolate the issue. You may also try formatting the drive using these steps: https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/20821 (please ensure to backup your data before formatting since it is a data-destructive process). If the issue persists, please contact us at: https://support-en.sandisk.com/app/askweb and we'll assist you further.

I bought the 1 TB version a while ago and it can't be formatted on a Mac. I have tried to remedy this issue on the Sandisk support page but it doesn't seem to work? the internet is full of reports and there is no solution by Sandisk/WD it's officially not affected so I guess there will never be a solution. I will buy from a more reliable manufacturer.

False advertisement at its finest! I have a pretty beefy setup that is more than capable of providing at least 1gbps, this *800mbps drive is able to transfer 300mbps for around 10 minutes, then drops to 100mbps with hand-burning heat. This is a terrible product if you are planning to do anything more than storing old family photos in it. Neither made for intensive usage, nor for professionals.
