What a camera
on October 11, 2009

Just picked my 7d. What a camera! I have owned the 10d, 20d, 30d and the 40d. I have been very happy with my 5d markii but was looking for the cropped sensor to get the most out of my lenses for outdoor sports shooting. The shutter speed and write time is outstanding. I am nothing more than a hobbyist but the image quality with the 7d is out of this world. I am very pleased with the results of my photos so far after the first week of shooting.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Simple controls/menu, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life

Awsome Camera...Worth the Wait

Received the 7D as a birthday present. Have used it for a week. Very impressed with the camera. My other camera was an XTi Which was a good entry level DSLR. But specializing in motorsports photography placed extreme demands on shutter speed and auto-focus speed. Was going to upgrade to the 50D but the 8 frames per second and advanced auto-focus put an end to that plan. Very happy so far with the control layout, though it is completely different from the XTi. Will take some time to learn all the levels of control but well worth the time investment. This camera is perfect for the semi-pro to pro that can't swing a 1DS.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation

Hand on with State of the Art Still Video

As a Film Production Student at UCSC, I have access to several prosumer HD video cameras. MiniDV, SDHC or Compact Flash. Leica, Canon, Sony. The list is standard.HD video camcorders cannot give as much visual versatility as the Canon 7D. I have also followed the evolution of this camera since the 10D was released years ago. The work-flow for Canon cameras is unparalleled and easy to use. This is one of the only cameras I could imagine offers the versatility of a professional ENG camera but costs the price of a SLR. If you want to shoot uncompressed 1080p at 24p or 30p this is the camera for you.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable

Fantastic Camera

I bought this camera as an upgrade to my 40D, and to use in combination with my 5D Mark II. I used the 40D (also a great camera) primarily for wildlife photography where the extra reach of the crop sensor was a big advantage. The 40D gave me great photos, but I wanted a camera with more megapixels for image cropping ability. I also wanted better focus tracking for moving animals, especially birds. The 7D meets all of these requirements, and adds HD video as well. The autofocus is quite complex and will take some time to learn properly, but I am very happy with its performance so far. This is as close as it gets to the perfect camera for my needs.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Nice features/settings, quiet, Solid Operation, good battery life, weather resistant
Cons: autofocus somewhat complex

The Hits Keep Coming

Canon has knocked it out of the park again.
The 5d mkll and 7d are changing the face of media and photography. It's not 'video' anymore. It's Digital Cinema.
Next step will be to reduce the compression and expand bit rate or dare I dream... a true RAW codec. No doubt, it's only a matter of time.
Only weakness is the failure to keep pace with lens design as these new sensors require great glass and few Canon lenses are truly up to the task.

Canon EOS 7D - Beyond the Still
on October 6, 2009

The movie mode offers now full manual control which is definitely a must.
The flash has also an Integrated Speedlite Transmitter which i often use.
A cool thing is also the Dual Axis Electronic Level that i use for balancing the horizon.
I specially like the viewfinder wich has a 100 percent coverage.
The AF-system features 19 points. This is better than on the 50D (9 points) - but i really would like to have 51 points.
(I have got a EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens, a EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, a Speedlite 580EX II and 4 LP-E6 batteries)
Thanks to Canon - you worked hard for our enjoyment!
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, full hd video, manual video control
Cons: "only" 19 af points

This is my first upgrade, and I am pleased the quality makes up for the price. It picks up the colors so well, and it is easy to pick up on learning the features. I only have the use of one hand, and am not able to pick up much weight, this camera gives me no difficulty. I also have difficulty holding stability, once again, this camera proves to be worth the price.
Pros: excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
