I just got back from a 6 day climbing/hiking trip at yosemitie nat,l park with this D-7 at my side.I found the size and weigh no problem and if you want awesome photos you need to have this level of camera. The perfromance of this D-7 is nothing short amassing.I got the kit version with the new 18-135 zoom which is much more usefull than the 28-135 zoom,so if you can, shop around for this kit. I found the photos very sharp and balanced, and can only iminge what an L series lens would do. I,m very happy with the constrution and weather sealing. Once you get the hang of the features and controls of the D-7, the positbilitys are almost endless. Whats missing? additional SD slot would be nice.

I have used a 10D, 30D, 50D, and now a 7D. The 7D is the ultimate camera. Noise is well controlled at higher ISO's and is far superior to the 50D. The video function is superb and has made this an all in one solution for me. I've sold the 50D and my Sony HD camcorder. Highly recommended.

Great Camera for Sports Photography

Got my 7D two weeks ago. I am impressed by the build quality. I was considering the 50D as an addition to my XTi. But when I got wind of the 7D there was no question this was the camera for me. The picture quality is impressive. The focus options and focus speed are top notch. Since i shoot primarily motorsports fast sharp focusing is essential. The camera also performs well when shooting portrais and in low light. Great color reproduction. And the HD video is a nice bonus as well. You cannot go wrong buying this camera. I highly recommend it to any serious amateur or above.

Amazing Camera

Two days ago was probably the best day of my photographic life. It was the day I got my 7D. Being a huge fan of the XSI, I wasn't quite sure how I could do better because am lucky enough to mount two of Canon's excellent L Lenses to the XSI giving it what I always, and still consider amazing image quality.
When I took the 7D out of the box, my hands started to shake. The build quality is awesome. The camera is not too heavy but substantial. The ergos are excellent and it fits beautifully in my hands. That was just the begining. I put on my 24-70mm f2.8 L lens and snapped my first pic. Wow, the sound sent chills don my spine. A totally different sound than I had ever heard. It screamed quality. The best part was yet to come. Seeing the picture on the LCD made me wonder if the picture was actually that amazing or if the LCD was playing tricks on me. It was the pic, cause it only got better when it was opened in Digital Photo Professional. The camera made me realize what an L lens can do. Amazing colors and clarity even at high ISO. Canon, you outdid yourselves. Thanks for the 7D. I'm sure everyone put in a lot of time and effort to deliver us this kind of quality at an amazing price. I'm with Canon for life.

An outstanding upgrade

I have been using Canon DSLR cameras since the D60 was released. I have used the D60 for several years then I upgraded to the 30D when the D60 became damaged beyond repair. The 30D was a nice bump in resolution, but not an upgrade that made me say wow.
The 7D is an upgrade that got a "WOW" out of me. The focus and response time is great. Performance of this camera is leaps beyond the 30D. This camera is no slouch. Features and button placement are easy to work with. The battery life is much higher than any of the BP-511 batteries that have been in use since the D60. I think it would be nice it I could still use the ones I have accumulated in the battery handle, but no good. I don't think that will be an issue since it may be a good selling point for my 30D.
The video is smooth and crisp. I wouldn't use it for a primary video camera only because the camera only writes up to a 4GB file then it stops. That's about 30 minutes of recording time per video. That's great for doing quick takes. The IS feature of the EF lenses don't work with the video mode. The pictures still look smooth and rich in color. The advantage of the 7D is that it can use any EF lens so I can use anything from my 14mm to 400mm lens for doing short videos. I also don't need to carry my video camera around with me unless I want to record more lengthy videos.
The only thing I marked down so far as a con is the less than full size image chip. It's great that an 18Mp CMOS chip can be made so small, but the native 1.6x zoom feature is annoying with some of my lenses.
In all, a great camera with very good features for anyone who is looking for a killer setup that has plenty of speed for almost any photo op.

too expensive

very good but too expensive and you may buy Mark II 5D if you add some money.Most I like the speed of this camera-real 8f per sec.

Fastest Camera in small sensor

Took photos with Blue Angel in SF Fleet week last week. 8 frames shooting speed is the fastest Camera I have. Results are great. Pricewise is a litte costly, but it also got nice 1080p video support. However, AF-on action is very slow. Overall, this is the great camera I love to suggest to semi-pro photographers.

Don't hesitate, Buy One

This camera is quicker faster cheaper and the live vciew is superior . The meter is way better, it focuses and tracks better than the 1d mark III and its shutter is not that much slower as to matter to me.
