I bought this camera because my current camera, while a fine camera, doesn't have fast or accurate enough AF for me and could use better low-light performance. I have been delighted so far. The AF is faster and more accurate than I could have imagined; AI Servo really works on this camera and one-shot AF is deadly fast and accurate. 8 frames per second is almost like shooting a video, and this camera has real video capability, which I haven't tried yet. The JPEGs straight out of the camera are so good that I am not tempted to do much PP (I did add one notch of sharpness to the default picture style). Noise control is very good; I get about the same noise at ISO 6400 as my previous camera gets at ISO 1600. I really have no complaint so far at all, and I'm ecstatic with what it can do. People say there's a steep learning curve, but if you read the manual and are patient, it's really not so bad, especially if you've used another Canon DSLR.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life, fast accurate af, amazing resolution
Cons: Missing features/settings, lack of easy mirror lockup, lack of eye-control focus
Considering an upgrade from the solid 40D, I was initially concerned about all the adverse online user comments about faulty autofocus. Having now used the 7D for 1,000+ college sports shots, both outside in good light and inside in poor light, I find the the autofocus works flawlessly, if you take the to learn how to use it properly. High ISO performance is improved over the 40D, the 8 fps shutter worked as promised, and the increased sensor mp count allows for usable crops. The camera is a solid workhorse and I couldn't be more pleased.
Pros: Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, good battery life
The 7D is the BEST camera I have used. I didn't think I would be up grading after my 30D and then the 40D, but i'm glad I did. The image quality is great the LCD is bright and I find very little noise at 6400. It focuses faster than my previous cameras and the new focus system works well. I haven't tried the video yet but I bet it will be great as well.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, Nice features/settings, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable, good battery life
I'm thinking this camera should last me a long time. It has everything you could ask for at a very high quality. I also appreciate that the manual is very easy to comprehend. The disc that comes with the camera also has very comprehensive manuals and programs. I haven't used it much, but I think that the highest definition movie recording will require a tripod.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, easy to use
This is the 3rd cannon that I own, prevoiusly i bought a cannon 50D, Needless to say this does not replace the 50D but it supports it. I like the LCD dispplay which is a full frame in it, It is more silent than the 50D which makes it ideal for my macro photography. the picture quality is excellent. It is a full professional camera that is very easy to use. Extended battery life makes it worth the dollars.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, quiet, Solid Operation, easy to use, Lightweight/Portable
I upgraded from a 50D which had served me very well for a couple of years as I was traveling to Africa to visit my sister and would be in a game park for two days.
I know the Canon menu system very well and had no problems navigating the 7D menu. I took over 2000 shots mostly in low light conditions and was blown away by how well the 7D performed.
Many of my shots were taken at 3200 ISO with a Canon L series 70-200mm F4 lens and I had to look very hard to find any significant noise. This camera performed flawlessly. Noise at high ISO is much improved over the 50D.
The only con I found was the battery life. It is possible that I just got a "bad" battery with my unit, so I have ordered a replacement.
The Canon 7D is the DSLR that I have been hoping Canon would make. It has a better weather sealed body than their other APC cameras had. It has 100% viewfinder, a large bright LCD screen that can be read in sunlight, an AF tracking system that I have longed for, good ISO low light performance, wireless off camera flash system built into the camera. I could go on, but the specs are there for you to read on the website. All of this is in an affordable package instead of a heavy 5K pro camera. I am loving it & taking some of my best photos ever. Sports, wildlife, & fast moving kids & grandkids are reasons to buy this camera. I have had mine for over a month & I am looking forward to years more with this camera.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Simple controls/menu, quiet, Quick Start-up time, Solid Operation, good battery life
After 3 weeks and 5000 pics, I am in LOVE with this camera. So far my sports/soccer shots have been better and more consistent than I imagined they could be. Also, night time soccer (GO SOUNDERS) is now possible even with a slower lens given the ISO capabilities.
Pros: Superior build quality, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Quick Start-up time
