Great Camera

You can shoot great images with this camera you just have to know how to use it. I have great, clear, shape images I have changed settings on the camera. I am using a 28-135mm and I can tell you I have very sharp stand out images that look beautiful. The menu on the camera is easy to use, if you read the manual otherwise it might be a little difficult for first time users. the only cons are that this camera is noisy but that's okay because I really wasn't expecting it to be quiet. It isn't light or small but once again that is fine I didn't buy it to be under a pound. overall you have to play with this camera and get use to it before buying it. I highly recommend going to a store that carries this camera and using it before you purchase it. This might be the camera for you but it might not. Overall this is a great camera that can give you shape or soft pics depending on how you want to use it. This is not a camera for beginners, this is not a point and shoot, this is a camera that will give you great photos if you know how to use it or take the time to figure it out.

Ecellent except for low light AF

Coming from the 1D-mkII N and the MK III I find the 7D to be an excellent camera. Although using an APS-C sesor it's picture quality is competitive with 1D line (NOT the Ds). Great LCD, fast operation, comfortable to use with one negative: The Auto Focus needs improvement!
it hunts too much in low light and almost unusable in "live view" shots, here, it hunts even with good inside light.
Great performer if you use L lenses, only "good" with other Canon lenses (17-85 mm IS f/4-5.6 USM for example). I like the 7D nonetheless, fun to use.
Recommended: highly!

Canon 7D

A great camera a big step up from my Rebel XTI, I have had no problems learning the new controls. The big down side is that if you shoot in RAW format Adobe Photoshop does not support 7D raw images. After a month of emails from Adobe helpless deslk they have no plans to support it. Had I know that I would have chosen another model.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD
Cons: Heavy/Bulky

Good Camera

I have used this camera for almost 3 months. The picture is good. But from my experiences tends to be overexposured, so need to set exposure compensations few stops. Also the focus is not so sharp. May be from the lens kit ?
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation

Soft Focusing

I had been waiting for some time to upgrade from the 20D. What I love about the 7D:
1) Frame rate absolutely rips - so great for skiing, paragliding, wakeboarding and other instances that involve high buffer rates - such a great improvement over the 20D for me.
2) We Canon folks can finally start to use and control off camera flashes from the camera itself - so awsome. Up until this point I've been using manual control flashes from other manufacturers and running them in manual mode. I'm halfway thinking about buying a second Canon flash now - but for now when traveling light and I just need a single fill flash I just throw in an old 420EX which is great.
3)Build - it feels solid in my hand, I love it's size.
4) The batteries last forever, even when it is cold outside.

What I'm bummed out about:
1) Mega-pixel race - 18MP?? Why? Keep it around 12 so that I can deal with smaller files in post process and to help resolve bummed out point 2
2) Although world's ahead of the 20D, the 7D is far noisier at ISOs above 400 than expected.
3) Viewed at 100% and shot through all my L lenses the images are often a little soft. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I know of other 7D users who have noted the same thing.

Frame rate is fantastic, build is solid, Canon is starting to head in the right direction with off camera flash control functions.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation

Upgrade from a 50D and 5D

I've been using the Canon 50D and the 5D for almost a year and decided to upgrade.
Two choices came to my mind, the 5DmkII or the 7D.

With the price difference and budget, I decided to go for the 7D.
I had the opportunity to use the 5DmkII on a concert shoot and I have been satisfied with the shots.
But money would be an issue.
Then a friend of mine have me try his 7D with the updated firmware.
I has really happy with the results of the photos taken from the 7D.

After a long debate and thinking, I went to get a 7D.
I think I made the right choice when it comes to quality of photos taken, it is very similar end results.

I decided to get a new L lens with the $1,000.00 difference.
Since I always think of investing on lenses than in the body.

Fantastic, no regrets at all

I took the 7D to Tanzania for three weeks to shoot wildlife. I had to replace a 1D2 and could not wait for the release of the 1D4. I have no regrets at all about buying this camera. I have not seen any trace of the "softness" others are complaining about. On the contrary. In combination with long L-lenses it focusses lightning fast and very accurate, even under less than ideal light and even when combined with a 1.4 TC.
The JPEG's it produces right out of the box are excellent, RAW files are superb. Colors look very natural and require very little tweaking, if any.
The Quick Menu is a real asset and makes adjusting many settings a whole lot easier than before.
Let's get one thing straight. The 7D is not a Red One, but the HD video function is very, very usable. Again, even under very tricky light. Use an external mic though, especially when using IS lenses. Better still, use a small seperate recorder like the Zoom H2 and add surround sound when editing your footage.
I can assure you thet eight frames/s is really fast enough to follow a hunting cheetah.
Pair the 7D with a WFT-E5 and a Garmin GPSmap for instant geo-tagging that works all the time. (The Garmin keeps running when the 7D goes into sleep-mode, so you always have a GPS location.)
All in all I was very pleasantly surprised by the 7D and I don't think I am going to buy a 1D4 for the time being. The build quality is excellent. Dust was not a issue in the very dry and dusty Serengeti, as was water when it finally started raining. It got a thorough beating bouncing around for a few weeks in an open LandCruiser and the 7D didn't even wince. I'm a very happy camper.

Awesome camera for the price

This is a great camera and a great alternative to the 5D Mark II if you want to save ~$1000 and get most of the same features and operation. I don't mind that this is not full frame, but the main concern with both the 7D and 5DMkII, when using movie mode, is the lack of any control over audio as well as a headphone output jack. I'm glad there's a mic input, but without manual level control and a live headphone out to monitor levels it is pretty much necessary to run external sound if you need good audio. Otherwise the stills from this camera are amazing and the video blows everything else in the price range away (as long as the camera is not moving because there is a slight issue with the way the shutter works with camera movement).

Cons: Missing features/settings
