SPECTACULAR CAMERA!

My hats off to the R&D guys on this one. This camera has it all over any of the 10,20, 30,40,50 and 5D's canon ever made. The camera is as usual built like a tank, which is a good thing. Photo results are amazing as I would expect from canon. Love the new live view single button operations for still and video. Nice that it incorporates auto focus in live view video as well. Only feature it has that I consider a waste is the level function. Sort of redundant if you have levels on your tripod. Cute though, makes you feel like a fighter jet pilot when you use it. custom functions are great. I have not used the video functions that much on either my 5d MK II or this one yet, put I need to put it through it's paces and see how it does. What I have done with them in video has been beautiful and crisp. The menus are simple to find what you are looking for and I love the fact that all the newer canons have the big info screen in on the back LCD instead of the small LCD screen. Us folks with the 40 year old eye problem thank you for this. I use to have a heck of a time reading the small menu on the top of the camera. All in all this is a great professional camera as well as for the non pro. I love it so much I had to have a second one of these also. Thanks Canon
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Canon did it right!

I had the 450D and 500D prior to the 7D, and the 7D is just superior in every which way. The build is incredible, the high ISO performance is stellar, and the menu interface and customization makes it a real joy to use. I think Canon did right with this camera.
The 7D though, may be too much “camera” for beginners. It is a really advanced camera in the end, and if you don't know your way around it the results may not be as great as you hope. Once you learn it inside and out, the 7D is capable of incredible photographs with very little effort.
Great job Canon!
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Simple controls/menu, excellent high iso capability
Cons: may be difficult for beginners

Just What I Needed
on February 5, 2010

I had been using the Canon EOS systems for quite sometime now. I first used the EOS system with the 10D and ever since I've been inspired by them ever since. I had a Rebel XTi and upgraded to the 7D. As a film student I have been needing a camera that can shoot video, and the Canon EOS 7D was the perfect choice for my photography and films. I have been satisfied with it since my purchase. I would suggest this to young amateur film students and semi-pro photographers or even pro photographers.
Its features accommodates every preference a photographer needs.
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation

Impressive camera

I am so glad I chose this camera instead of the 50D.
Its Quick Control screen performs amazingly well when, in the field, you need to change setups quickly.
I bought the 7D replacing my 30D and I noticed right away it was a huge technological update. I am so impress. I bought the kit with the 15-85MM IS USM lens and I am so amazed by the quality of the images. My friends quickly noticed the picts taken by this camera. Hopefully Canon will produce the lens hood for this lens. It's a shame does not come with it, considering a pricey lens.
Still need to go throughout half the instruction manual though but I found is worth if you want to get a good performance
Another spec I was quite impressed with was the in-camera correction for those dark corners in pictures taken with the 15-85mm IS lens. Just register the lens using the register function and they are gone!!!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Very good camera

Coming from a Canon 1DIIn I was very pleased with all aspects of the camera.
I own it.
The AF of the 7D does not replace my 1D but the AF options and accuracy are exceptional to say the least.
Unless you plan to move to a later model 1D, this is the camera that I would recommend.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use

Awesome Camera

I upgraded from an XSi, also a great camera, but after using the 7D in store for only a short while, I knew it would bring my photography to a whole new level.
I didn't blindly rate the 7D 5 stars in every category, I really think it deserves it. In terms of features, the 7D is probably Canon's flagship. This thing feels like a testbed of new tech, and it really brings a lot of useful gadgets to the table. I especially like the orientation-aware AF setting mode.
In terms of performance, the AF is fast, the viewfinder display is excellent and unobtrusive, and the shooting speed is epic. Image "noise" should be renamed "grain" when you shoot with this camera; it's there, but the subtlety is excellent (if you have realistic expectations).
The video mode is also excellent, and well through out. However, I would've liked to see Tv and Av modes enabled (you can do auto or manual, with Auto ISO on either) and there is the rolling shutter artifact that plagues all CMOS video systems. But it's still a great feature.
The camera is complicated to use to its fullest, but the main shooting controls are the same as other pro-series EOS cameras, so no major complaints. Once you get used to it, everything flows nicely.
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation
