Poor image quality

I like this camera’s size and feel; I also like the Quick control screen, 100% viewfinder, external flash control and a lot of the other options this camera has like the 8fps. What I don’t like is some of the camera’s options, like Live View, with such a nice 100% viewfinder why would you use Live View, I wish this had a seperate button for Mirror lock-up instead of Raw/Jpeg, I don’t like the sensor in this camera, in mine at least, there is a lot of noise on anything ISO 400 or higher, I don’t like the focusing in this camera, it has a great looking AF system but it doesn’t work right, it might not be the AF systems fault totally because I get the same affect when shooting in manual focusing, this camera shoots very soft pictures, I thought with the new AF system this camera would be tack sharp but by only using the central point spot focus I get about 95 - 98% of my pictures poorly focused (Soft) and unusable. I’ve tried setting up the microadjustment for each of my lenses, 2 of which are ”L” series lenses but this doesn’t help either because after you adjust them and take a couple of pictures and check them again they are all out of adjustment. Canon you have to fix this problem and forget the Megapixel race, I would rather have great pictures of 12-14 megapixels than unusable pictures of 18 megapixels. I will be sending this camera back for adjustment or repair this should not happen.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: Missing features/settings, Poor image quality, noisy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Had never owned a Canon Digital camera, had a couple other brands and was not sure about going with this one but I am real glad I did, it is fast, the focus is great, the color is fantastic. There is very little touch up with this camera, I'm not used to that, the cameras that I have used in the past required alot more work in the digital darkroom, Very pleased with this buy.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
Cons: noisy

Very frustrated

I used my new camera today and was very pleased with it until I got back to my hotel room and recharged the battery. Then I changed some of the menu settings, and after that the camera would not hold any of the settings I programmed after it turned itself off to conserve power (or I turned it off). I tried many times to reset it, experimenting to see what might be wrong, but finally gave up. I will not be able to use it for my photography workshop this week, as it is completely impractical to constantly reset many settings in order to use it!
Pros: Nice features/settings, excellent image quality
Cons: doesn't work properly

crummy focus in low light @ f/2

1/500, 135L f/2, 1600 ISO, focus priority, central point spot focus yields 95% poorly focused pictures with very sharp back focus more than a focus point away. The other 5% of the pictures are superb on the exact same composition. Not a problem on 50D. Not a problem in better light. This is just a weird software bug.
Superb battery life, 14k frames per charge.
Foolish battery DRM.
Incomplete EXIF.
Incomplete FAT32 dates.
Pros: good battery life, Nice features/settings, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use, awesome battery life, awesome pictures
Cons: Shaky operation, Poor image quality, poor low light focus
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great cam for the money

Great camera! This camera replaced the 20D I used for several years. I ended up shooting a lot of sports and the 8fps was a big help. I needed a fast fps because we shoot a lot of shots of batters swinging and need to get 4 - 5 shots during the swing. WIth this cam, I am able to get an average of 6. The speed was my main reason for upgrade.
Aside from that, the only thing I would have liked is the ability to use CF and SD cards simultaneously (like the 1D MIII) and also a min. ISO of 50. This is not a HUGE deal because the 50 ISO was to be for long exposures but that's nothing a set of ND filters won't fix. However, this is why I rated features 4 out of 5.
After using a 20D for years (very happily), I was very impressed with several features of the 7D, including:
Huge LCD. I can actually see my compositions when I review now! Long battery life. I purchased a second battery in case I needed one for long days at the ballpark, where we routinely spend 8 - 10 hours shooting games. So far, I haven't needed to use second battery.
I like being able to create folders on the CF cards in camera and shoot to the ones I choose. This helps when shooting multiple games and speeds up workflow enormously. Lots and lots of great features that I could talk about but I will just say that the only thing really missing is full frame sensor (which I was unwilling to pay for so it's fine) and the dual memory cards (again, unwilling to pay $3000+ for a camera at this time) and the 50 ISO.
I think most people will be pleased with this cameras performance and quality. Some have complained about the AF not being great. 2 pieces of advice. 1, get the latest firmware and 2, read your manual. You have a sophisticated AF system and need to make sure you have set it to do what you want. I had this problem at the beginning but once I learned how to use the multiple settings, everything is A-OK!
Pros: good battery life, quiet, Nice features/settings, Quick Start-up time, excellent image quality, Superior build quality, Bright LCD, Solid Operation, Lightweight/Portable, Simple controls/menu, easy to use
