By far the finest camera I have ever owned. Operator friendly, quality construction and exceptional pictures. The T series are lighter but I prefer the construction of the 7D. Well worth the price.

Excellent Camera, Excellent Value

I purchased the EOS 7D after exhaustive research. I read every website and article I could find on digital SLR cameras. I narrowed the field down to the 7D and 5D. I looked at feature comparisons and since my work doesn't require a full frame sensor camera, the 7D won out. Even with the full frame sensor, the 5D doesn't have all of the features of the 7D. Learning to use the camera has been a blast. My wife and I have used Canon still and video cameras for years for work and travel, and once you learn the basic logic, shooting is easy (like computer OS's, each manufacturer has their own logic). The image quality is excellent. I shot some photos at a family function just after getting the camera. People complemented me on the photo quality and by the end, everyone wanted copies. Low light shooting is magnificent and it is one of the best cameras I have used in lower light. I have been using the battery grip with two batteries and have yet to run out of power during a full day of shooting. Make sure to get the biggest UDMA CF card you can find, you will be glad you did, especially if you shoot RAW and JPEG simultaneously.
Overall, I highly recommend this camera. If you do not have to have a full frame sensor, then this is THE camera for you. It is truly the best hardware purchase I have ever made.
Pros: high end features, great accessories, great burst shooting
Cons: none!

Fantastic action camera

Fantastic camera for those who know what they want. I could not be happier to see revolutionary improvements from my Rebel XSi, in terms of focusing speed and accuracy, ergonomics and image processing power.
A few other observations
Battery life. It consistently runs over 1,200 shots on one charge, just enough to fill my 32GB CF card with RAW. Live view model and video usage will cut this number dramatically. Video only mode can get ~30 minute 1080P/30fps on one charge.
IQ. It can't beat 5DM2 for portrait tasks, especially in low light. But shots taken @ISO 200 during a wedding came almost indistinguishable to my pro friend
Weight. Not big deal to me but just enough to discourage my wife - female uses might want to take note
Video. The results are very impressive, but usability is poor. Do it with at least a tripod and external mic. Otherwise it's easy to shake when zooming/focusing, and mechanical sounds, including the lens zoom/IS noise, always show up in the recordings.
Lens. Due to higher pixel density than 5DM2 it requires L grade glass to get full resolution, otherwise consider using M or S modes - save you from wasting card/disk space.
JPEG. Stunning quality straight off the camera. Don't waste time converting RAW on a computer unless you are making a poster, your lens has significant distortion and/or aberrations, or you need the 1EV headroom for highlights
Pros: consistent and fast focusing, 8 fps, very ergonomical, near pro build quality
Cons: none

Great Camera - for Photo and Video
on August 10, 2010

I was a bit skeptical about buying this camera because I'm a filmmaker and shoot photos as a hobby - but decided to upgrade to it. I've been running around doing test filming and taking pictures all I can and I've been really impressed and happy with the purchase. It's the best SLR I've owned. So many options to help you get the look you want. The video capabilites are really great too. Obviously, this is a stills camera first - so it doesn't have everything I would love for it to, but it's still wonderful for filming. I really think it's a great camera.

I never thought I could have a camera of this quality. It is fast and gives me the ability to produce better shots than I ever expected. It is built well. I love the overall performance of this camera. I had a Canon XTi prior to this camera, and the 7D is wonderfully superior.

Top of the heap.

Strong sturdy construction. All the new features make this camera stand out among the hundreds that try to emulate it. The HD video is second to none found in any DSLR that I have used. I also have a Canon cam corder, and it rarely gets used now. It is very important to have a proper CF card in order to make a quality video. Once you have all the settings customized the way you like, this camera is a pleasure to use. I use "L" series lenses, and this the 7D performs like a professional.
Pros: easy operation, very high resolution, ergonomical

Great Camera

I added 7d about 6 months ago after my wife took interest in our T1i. There are so many nice features in this camera, but the focusing system is amazing. The ability to quickly switch AF points/zones is very handy when shooting action. Servo focus is very accurate. Image sharpness is very good and with L-series lens borderline amazing. Remote flash is a welcomed addition. Although this is my primary still camera, I increasingly find myself shooting video with it.
